Discover is pretty stingy...

This morning I got an email from Discover congratulating me on new CLI from them on my IT card. Now for those of you following my story, you know that I've been generally ticked at Discover for their lowball CL ($2500) and high beginning interest rate (20.99%) since I apped for them at the end of February. So it was a surprise to see a CLI after only three months....

Oops, cancel the happy dance...the quote from my email:

"Congratulations! We're pleased to inform you that your outstanding credit management has earned you a credit line increase on your Discover® card.

The new credit line on your Discover card account is $2,750, of which your cash credit line is $700.

In the coming months, we will continue to evaluate your account. Then based on your overall credit behavior and Discover card usage, we may continue increasing your credit line."

That's right, they CLI'd me a whopping 10% to bring my old CL of $2500 to a whopping $2750. Not a $2750 CLI...a $250 CLI.

Really guys? That's supposed to blow air up my skirt? I just spent that much on dinner with my wife a few days ago at the Palm. Did you not read in my account profile that my household income is closer to $200K, not $20K?

Now in Discover's (weak) defense, I've not been using this card much...no more than $150 ever charged on it in a month and always PIF. I still intend on buying a new Macbook Air or Pro for my wife when Apple announces new product in two weeks with this card. And then we'll see if their opinion of me changes at all. And hey, I'm grateful for any CLI.  But man, these guys are cheap!

Re: Discover is pretty stingy...

That is rather cheap... although, I think from another thread I read, Discover likes to see balances reporting, and decent use of the card, so perhaps when you get the new computer!

Regardless, congrats on the CLI, lol!

I couldn't agree more.  I'm going to ramp up my spending on my lower limit card that I have with them since I converted to a 2% on everything rewards system.  I plan on pif every cycle, so I should have different results.

Re: Discover is pretty stingy...

Discover is annoying. They take forever to post transactions and to post payments. I only use my IT for shop discover.

Re: Discover is pretty stingy...

At least you got something from them. I got my card a month earlier (end of January), put about $300, $200, $500 on the card, and my $2000 CL is... still $2000.

Oh, and my cash advance credit line is a whopping $200.

Ouch

Maybe your next one will be hugh

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Discover is pretty stingy...

Yeah, unfortunately Discover can be pretty stingy with credit limits. Are you willing to sacrifice a hard pull? I bet, based on the high limits on your other cards, you will get a large CLI if you let them do a hard pull.
