Re: Discover peculiarities?

Peculiarities? Funny you ask...

I've been a Discover IT (Student) customer since 2013 with a SL of $400 - don't judge me, my credit was less than mediocre at the time. After 6 months received a whopping $100 CLI to $500. I felt as if I needed to build a relationship with them to prove my worthiness, so I sat with the 500 CL, every once in a while - I'd say once every 6-9 months asking for CLI. I always did this through the app and was denied. So last year, I got fed up and called. My literal question to the lovely person that answered the phone after verifying my information, I asked "why don't you love me?" and went on to explain my situation. I mentioned that I just requested a CLI on the app and got the dreaded "we have to review your request and will let you know in 5-10 business days the decision" message. She laughed and said one moment please while I look at your request. She came back and said congratulations! We were able to give you a $1000 CLI!

That said, I think they put me in a less-desirable bucket and got stuck there, even with my scores increasing and nearly perfect credit behavior. Once I called I think they might have moved me out of that bucket into another that is more desirable... because since last year, I have received $3500 in CLIs.

I say go for it, they're great if they trust you!

Show pending charges as $1, instead of showing the real pending amounts.

Amex does this as well... From what I understand, an authorization for $1 is just to verify an open account?

When you use it at a gas pump, it shows a pre-authorization for $1, but holds $100. Amex shows $1 but will usually update to the hold amount within a day while it's pending.

They all are gas, it is the gas quarter.

Just not like my usual gas card that shows pending.

Re: Discover peculiarities?

That’s interesting. I’m gonna try it next time instead of just requesting online. I’ve been thinking that even though my name isn’t Joe, it does start with J and I’m not getting any CLI love either. Maybe they just hate the letter J...

Re: Discover peculiarities?

Discover hates me!

I have the secured card that I have not been able to graduate and they will not pre-approve me for anything else

Re: Discover peculiarities?

I think the American Express app is great so far.. and I agree discovers app is great. Ime cap1 app is ok it has limited use for me but is easy to use. But discover in general is great.
If on fence I would get it. Remember you can buy gift cards during ur 5% quarter for the future like the 600$ in gas gift cards I got this quarter I will use starting July 1st

I love dealing with Discover.  It's like a box of chocolates.  you never know.....  Anyway, last week I put in for a CLI, got the NOPE letter because of a short relationship with them in the mail and the next morning got the Congratulations we increased your credit email.  You just never know.

Re: Discover peculiarities?

$1.00 usually is a financial designation that an amount is on hold. For the most part since banks deal with numbers etc. in order to remove wild cards from reporting via web pages a standard of $1.00 is used instead of a specific amount or an awaited amount. In other words if you make a purchase from a vendor in a particular State they may or may not charge you State sales tax that applies to the State you reside in, unless a vendor sends in the final calculated amounts, a creditor uses the substitute $1.00 instead until the charge is finalized.

Re: Discover peculiarities?

I applied was given the 7-10 day notice. applied 30 days later and was told I recently has an application so they canceled.
6 days later I went thru their pre-quilified site, it came back with two pre- approval cards.
I selected the cash back since it actually makes better sense over all.
And was approved.
