It's really a personal decision. I have both Freedom and Discover It, and use them both for the 5% categories. When either has gas or restaurants, I tend to max out the 5%, and the Discover deals and the current department stores promotion helps me, but not enough for me to get rid of the Freedom. I had CSP, but just nerfed it, not enough of an incentive for me personally, as I used the initial bonuse for an airfare, but I don't use it enough to keep it and pay the AF.

if they don't wantUR then why tell them the benefit? yeah that's what makes the freedom better but they don't want the fair fight someh. don't take it i guess
Just asking in your view
Profiles change as does cards in reviewing the freedom wouldn't it make sense to know about the feature just in case down the road say a year your profile dictates CSP is now beneficial to your portfolio instead of say picking Discover and not having any use in a year?
I'm not pushing Discover or Freedom but I do think everyone should have all the info associated with each product...
Be nice now Lol

Glad to see I'm not the only who's sick and tired of hearing about the benefits of UR Points and the 1-to-1 transfer to select partners, blah blah blah...
RIght, but if "sick and tired" is a good criterion, there have been lots of threads recently about "which is better, discover or freedom" where all the same arguments come up.
(And basically the OP said it all in the original post, there is nothing much to add!)
It really boils down a simple present and future benefits analysis.
All things equal, since UR points may be redeemed for cash, the potential for a higher value transfer makes them more valuable. One may not travel now, but may in the future. Is there any reason to exclude the option of transferring, especially when the cash value is the same? What does one lose to have the option to transfer for a higher value in the future?
Of course, if Discover earns more $$, or if one prefers a higher GC redemption, then this should be weighed accordingly with potential future travel plans. However, in the case where both are 5% restaurants (assuming GC redemptions are preferred), is there any reason to chose Discover over the Freedom? Certainly not. In this case, the Freedom is better, since the cash value is the same, but also allows for the potential of higher transfer value, even if unused.
Options and a potential for higher value is always more valuable, all things equal.

Right, many pros and cons, and this vs. that card has been debated and discussed many times over, at one point or another. While it may appear redundant to those who have read and are familiar with it, it may be all new and informative to a potential new poster.
