Is this something I should just expect to happen at some point? FWIW I only have credit cards with them, not charge cards, so the potential to rack up a significant amount of NPSL debt is not possible.

I really wanna know this. They let me charge 3x my stated income without even a phone call. It cant be high spending. Maybe risky spending categories?
No. The chance of FR is highly overblown, and with most of the FRs that we hear about here, there is some contributing factor involving behaviour, spending habits, etc..

I'm hoping this is the reason for them, If I get it and my credit reports are fine i'm going to be very disappointed.
It makes me think whether we are overparanoid on this forum. AMEX issues some 50 million cards in the U.S. alone so I find it hard to picture them watching us like a hawk 24/7.
Its all about the trend they see and i would say they might have random checks (like at the airport)
My spending varies from low to high but i think they have learn mhy trend, FR is something not to take lightly. Since we dont know the logic behind FR, we cannot assume that it;s always habits etc. Im very careful when it comes to AMEX and charge cards.

That's ok, we have Barclay's to do that job I'm gonna have to check my reports and see how much they are softing me. I don't really care, just curious.
FR's are something I don't worry about. I got approved for my BCE on Dec 7th and received the card on Dec 14th and activated it. I have used the devil out of it in the last 7 weeks just to test the waters so to speak, and I have not had a problem. I have PIF four times since I have had the card. In fact, on the 61st day after activation, I will see if Amex will increase my CL from my present 12K to 25K. If they shut me down for any reason, no problem. I still have my long time US Bank cards.
I didn't know about the whole F/R by Amex until I became a member here. I have been a member with Amex since 2004 and started with the Green Charge Card and Blue Cash.
During the financial crisis I always paid 2 weeks later than the due date on my Green card and they put a cap of $1k spending limit on the card but never F/R me.
They also CLD my Blue Cash in 09 or 10 because of history with them and what was on my report at the time.
Sometime last year they took off the $1k spending limit and back to NPSL
I got a CLI on my Blue Cash without a hard pull in October of last year
Fast forward to this year I applied for 2 new Amex Cards in January and both approved with $9.1k limits. (highest limit credit cards to date)
I want to get a CLI on my new cards after 61 days and ask for the max $25k but concerned about a possible F/R. Don't know what I am going to do yet.
