Just kidding, I'm sober...for now.
As you can see from my signature, I have a Delta Gold. I accidentally came across the Platinum app page and it has "Request Upgrade. My 1 year anniversary isn't until next month. Not sure where I'm planning to take my card out for dinner, or what to buy it, but that's for another thread.
My question is, how likely will it be that there'll be an upgrade sub offer made in the future? I have no need for the Platinum as my wife has a gold as well, just curious. Also curious if it would be a sub big enough to make it worth upgrading for, before downgrading back to gold. Would a referral be worth it?
For the garden peeps, would an upgrade reset my spade? I'm looking forward to my rose rold spade coming up soon. Heard it's made of metal.

Yo, I can't add Amex Gucci as a tag. Who blocked Gucci? That ain't Gucci.

Well, with the BLUE lineup they tend to offer upgrade bonuses when it's close to renewal trying to snag that AF. The nice thing about the bonuses on upgrades is you can churn them as much as they're offered w/o being denied for the bonus unlike a new app.
I wish I had some data for you but I don’t. While I’ve seen others with upgrade offers, I never waited to receive one because I wanted the big sub offerings for each one. So each one of mine were new accounts.
Im greedy when it comes to sky miles/ mqms / etc. 😁

It might be a case to case basis. I have had the Platinum but have not received in upgrade bonus offers for the Reserve.
Also, I have both the Bonvoy and Hilton Surpass, both less than a year (the Hilton is less than a month old), and I get "Request for Upgrade" links when I am signed out.
Also also, having two Gold does not make the Platinum useless. The companion certificate alone makes it more than worth its an annual fee.

Search the credit card forum for: delta upgrade bonus
...and you'll find many results. 5k miles is on the low end, 25k is on the high end
I went straight for Platinum, so no Gold-to-Platinum experience to share.
Regarding the bolded part...the extra value of Platinum is in the companion certificate, so I don't see how your wife's Delta Gold card would make it superfluous.
I may not be up-to-date on how Amex handles same-household referrals.

I'd like to avoid a new card if possible, but a new card for the sub has crossed my mind.

Would Amex even approve a $1k CL Delta Gold card for an upgrade to Platinum?
And, if different, what would be the minimum they'd approve for Delta Platinum on an app for a new card?

I think it's possible. If I remember right, the limit has to be at least 3x the AF, which is why you can't move all of the limit when transferring them. TBH, this was just curiosity. I did overlook the companion pass because I was thinking about my wife using her skymiles, but the companion pass still makes it worth it. Personally, I'm more interested in getting the gold because dining is a huge spend for us. I could earn flights much faster with that.

Strictly from a SUB perspective nabbing one while they have the 70k+ miles to go along with the statement credit is what to hold out for with the Delta Platinum card. This is, of course, assuming you don't mind the new account ding
