Email and mail from AE wanting AU SS#

I recently was approved for a Delta Gold card from Amex and added a relative as a authorized user. She has had credit issues in the past but credit scores are in the high 600's. I have had the card for 2 months now and have gotten 2 letters -email and snail mail asking for the AU SS num. Anyone get a similar request-why would they want it and what if I ignore it?

Because Amex is one of the few credit card companies who wants the SSN of AUs, that's why they ask for it when you add an authorized user.  They will not give cards to AUs that have burned them in the past.  Hard to say what will happen if you don't provide it but it's possible that they will just shut down the AU card.

she has never had an Amex card-will probably send it in-i guess adding an AU  shouldnt hurt my credit scores and it may actually help her.

Yeah,no reason not to send it in.  Adding her as AU won't hurt your scores unless she abuses the account and it doesn't get paid.  Just monitor it regularly and with Amex you can set limits as to how much she can charge on it.

No worries with her running up  charges on the card. She has a good income but during a divorce a couple yrs ago her credit went bad so she is rebuilding. Part of the reason for getting the card is that we are travel buddies and if i am unable to book a reservation she is able to do so with the card.

I see more lenders asking for SSN for AUs than before. I wanted to add my brother to my cards without SSN and it was not possible with BofA, Discover, Cap1 or Amex, at least online, I didn't call or chat.
