pipeguy, I have never understood the love affair with CapOne, but maybe its because they don't like me much.......lol  My partner has a card with them, and his CL is well above 30K.  I'm even a AF on his card and STILL no love.    Discover, Amex, and even Chase give me love on a regular basis so I dunno.  They do work well for some people.

I think the love affair has to do with "good" scredit scores apply and get high SL's, I've seen it over and over on here. My Scores vary some but right now are 801, 766 and 735, which gets me generally 5 figure starting limits and low to moderate APR's. I PIF on everything and I don't think Cap-1 likes that on their branded cards. SL's have been low, CLI's are few and far apart and I just have no use for a card that starts at $3000 and takes two years to get to $5000 when I have many other cards that offer 2% or more, Zero percent promotions (nice to see, but I PIF anyway). On the other hand Cap-1 backs the GM BuyPower card and that started at $10k and has gone up twice (currently $12.5) in the two years I've had it - most Cap-1 fans and MyFico member dislike the GM card due to very low limits and other reasons.

Bottom line is that Cap-1 would rather you app for a new card if you want higher limits, etc. I got sick of it and mind you I have had until last friday, over $100k in cash deposits in Cap-1 for the last 11 months (personal set-aside) for a project - didn't matter.  You've got good cards, if this lender doesn't see you as a good risk, you don't need them.

The house is bought and my scores are in the 760s across the board.  I've always considered closing CapOne as they NEVER give me credit increases.    So I'm willing to dump the card and move on.

I'm considering possibly a penfed card,  but what else would be a good card to look into?

Cards I have:

Amex blue everyday 27k

Discover it 13k

Chase Amazon 9k

Cap One Venture 3.5k

I want to avoid cards with AF &  CapOne  is kinda dead to me as I am to them apparently.  Never sure why they hate my acct but I've always paid them on time.  And I want to limit exposure to any one bank, and no store cards, thats not really my thing.

Well since you have cashback cards already, you might want to consider Barclay Ring or PenFed Promise.

Re: Finally ready to close CapOne!

I totally understand, my original Cap One platinum never grew pass $1100 over 8 years. The only way I was able to increase it was to get other cards through them. I have to admit as UncleB said, they've never let me down either. So from the advice of others here, I PC'd it to a Quicksilver and did a little consolidating. Guess what, that card they never allowed to grow is now $49,500.

Good luck with your closings!

You do realize your Venture card has an annual fee of $59 right?

Cards with annual fees are better, and I suggest everyone have ONE in their pocket to use for most of their spending.

Totally disagree with the statement:  Cards with annual fees are better, and I suggest everyone have ONE in their pocket to use for most of their spending.
