First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

I've been visiting for a while but finally joined and looking forward to being here and finding some extra guidance.

Little back story, I'm currently 24, I got into credit cards at 18 (2017) and quickly ran them all up, learned from my mistake and paid them all down. I have since ridden less than 15% utilization since mid 2020 practicing AZEO. I primarily use my local bank card however, I just got a large promotion at work and will be traveling 8-10 days a month now so I've been looking into getting a travel rewards card to use, company will reimburse after each trip.

Looking at multiple cards, capital one venture, chase sapphire preffered, amex gold, and NFCU flagship. I've been preapproved for all on the websites(chase isn't in just for you, only on the newly released prequalify page).

So far CSP looks like the top dog for what im wanting, amex is close just not a fan of the bigger annual fee for very minimal extra. I'll meet the sub amounts on any of them pretty easily so that is an added bonus with amex or csp. Im just looking for input on approval experiences and other opinions on reward systems. This will be my first step into higher tier cards if approved and looking for the best fit and approval chance without wasting a HP. Thanks everyone!

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

Both Amex and Chase have pre-qualify options on their websites. I would start there. But with the current limits you have, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high about the sl. But both of their pre-qualification tools are pretty rock solid if nothing changes in your profile. Good luck.

I think you should try for the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

Depends on which eco system you want to earn points in. For me, UR points (Chase) are more valuable than MR points (AE). AE charge cards are easier to get approved for than top tier credit cards such as CSP. One other thing you might want to consider: depending on the details of your travel, you might benefit from some of the travel perks of AE Platinum. Generally speaking, if one qualifies for Gold, they qualify for Platinum. But Platinum isn't the easiest to earn points with, so many Platinum card holders also hold Gold for earning points faster. CSP's insurances are a bit more comprehensive than AE Gold's, but AE is known for making it's insurances easier to use - if any of that matters to you. Even though all your current cards have realitively low limits, the rest of your profile looks promising for CSP - if you want to try. Good luck.

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

AmEx Gold is a not a card for travel. It's way more for every day use. For AmEx and travel it's hands down the Platinum card as that's exactly what it's gear toward. However if you don't like the $250 Gold AF you sure won't like the $695 Platinum AF lol. So, the Green card at $150 AF also fairly decent travel benefits. For me it would be either the Chase card of Amex Platinum, although with so a low salary, approval for Platinum or a high CL for CSP may be an issue.

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

You have some cards that will consider cli's  via a sp. Capital 1, lowes, and I believe discover can be a sp, someone can confirm that for you I'm sure. I would raise my limits via a sp if you can. There is no foul in that and would look better with better limits. As far as flagship card. Many with great scores have been declined for that card. It's well known, that should not be your first card with Navy. You want to have some history with them as a rule. Venture is a good all around card and you have some history with them, auto, card. It's your choice. Best of luck to you.

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

@beachtiger98,

Welcome to the forum!

My personal preference is NFCU & Chase.

My thoughts are, with them being able to see big loan payments,

I think that would bode well for you.

Chase gave me by far My highest limit some years back, on my first card with them. -> (blew me away)

They don't play the game, as long as you profile supports it.

Several recent DP's of NFCU Flagship $20K+ Approvals "HERE".

With NFCU, "SP" CLI approval available after 91/3 (91 days and 3 full statements) and every 181 days thereafter.

Ability to grow the Flagship card to $80K

Also some really nice "perks" and "$350.00"  SUB

No Non-sense 24/7 365 customer service.

Having said all that, take in what other's posted upthgread and make your decision.

Good Luck and please keep us posted.

Re: First Post/ Approval odds and Card suggestions

Thanks for the info everyone! Went ahead and applied for the CSP this morning and got an Instant approval for $5200 with 20.24%, matched my highest current card. Sl is plenty for what I will be using it for and a great starting place. Thanks again!
