I was wondering if the geofencing hack described in the thread below from 2020 for PNC Bank also applies to other banks such as Truist, and if it still works for PNC?

It does work for BMO Harris if you apply for a cc over the phone or in a branch. My address is in California and I have had a BMO HARRIS Savings and Checking in May. I applied online for a CC in June and was denied. in August, I applied over the phone and was approved for a CC with a 12K SL.
I thought I'd call Truist today and ask. Nobody really knew if establishing a checking and savings would make one eligible for a cc down the road even if excluded by geofencing when coming from the outside.
@Jeffster1 i live in ny and cant get a cc thru Truist thought id open up a checking and savings to bypass the geo restriction but they still say im out of the marketing area after the accounts were opened - didnt even bother funding these accunts

@mfinsmi1 Thanks! Great info. It sounds like they have it locked up tighter than a drum. Bummer....though I keep hearing their cards aren't great.
TD was geo-fenced when I applied in early 2021 right after my DC. I was applying for their secured card. They made me physically go to a branch to fund my card. I do have a NY address besides CA and funded it in a branch on Miami Beach. It graduated in about 8 months. They've been awesome. Once my relationship was established, they were totally cool with my CA address, even when I applied for a new card (instant approval).
Still bummed about Truist even though I am probably better off. Thanks again.
@Jeffster1 I see ur sig u already have much better cards lol

Unlike some institutions where certain deposit or investment products may be a workaround for opening separate CC or loan products, the perceived hack will not work with Truist, Regions (or similar institutions) where geo-fencing tends to be fairly strict.
@FinStar Thanks. I really appreciate the info.
@Jeffster1Isnt always a physical address you type in. Your IP can come into play. On a phone location is always on. Unless you turn it off. On a desktop. Go to Best Buy and many other places it asks with the ole this site wants to use your location pop up. On the flip side. Then theres some that go incognito and so on and so on.

Nope. I travel extensively and have applied from a variety of IP addresses all over the country.
