Getting Delta Reserve merely for 1st class companion pass. Bad idea?

Am contemplating getting Delta Reserve just to be able to redeem 1st class companion ticket every year. My daughter and I travel 5-6 times a year so I know I will use it, the cost of free ticket will easily cover af, have looked at the restrictions for fare class and it seems pretty easily redeemable. I am not sure I will use it much outside of the perks with Delta though, from an earning perspective I would just spend on Amex Gold and BBP then transfer points over for flights or use Biz Platinum 35% back. Anyone have the card and use it often on a spend I am missing? Thoughts on my thought?

If you'd otherwise be paying cash for two first class domestic tickets, and can book a round trip sufficiently far in advance, it's a great value. You might consider the Business version as well as the personal.

I'm only moderately enthusiastic about my Delta Platinum card, but that's more about the general frustrations of coordinating travel when other people waver on their plans.

*I'm also a fan of using the 35% back as a way to get around the poor value of SkyMiles.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Literally the only reason I have the reserve is I fly comfort+ at minimum and for the lounge access. Easily covers the af. I don't use it otherwise.

I'm confused about what you mean about comfort+  That sounds like that's a Platinum Medalliion perk, not anything to do with your Delta Reserve.

I do something similar with my Hilton Aspire. I basically only have it for the Waldorf Astoria Free Night + $200 resort credit.

Delta miles do seem a little de-valued in general last few months. I appreciate everyones input, was just checking to see if I was way off base with my thinking.
