I was wanting to buy a gift card as an Xmas gift for a relative for $500. I've already spent about $1000 on CSP and paid my first statement bal of $555 in full. I need to spend $2k to get the 40k pt bonus.
If I purchase a $500 Visa gift card from like CVS or wherever, will it count towards that spend requirement? I haven't see any info that would indicate otherwise. Is this okay or would Chase think I'm doing that 'manufactured spending' thing? I have never bought a gift card on any Credit Card ever, so it'd be a first.
any type of purchase counts, as long as it is not a cash advance or BT.
the only time gift cards may not count is when they are labelled as a cash advance, but this doesn't seem to happen with Chase.
1 gift card will not get you into any trouble.
You might get a fraud call though, and need to confirm you are making the purchase, as the card is new and $500 is outside the norm for CVS. Wouldn't worry about this being considered manufactured spend, because $500 gives you $5 back (assuming you don't use it in URs) and the card will cost about $4.95. So not worthwhile for MS, but a good way to meet the spend to get the bonus.
