Good Ole Cap One

It's painstakingly clear CapOne is in no hurry to restore account combinations. I have two CapOne cards, PC'd QS and QS1. The QS is 3 years old and the QS1 is 1 year old. Apparently bucketed with low CL's.

I originally wanted to combine the QS1 into the QS, since it is the older account and just let it be a low revolver for age purposes. It could be a good back up card for my daughter if I could just absorb them into one another. But, I'm at the dilemma of just closing both sub prime cards.

I'm on the fence if it is counterproductive to let them age or let them go. Should I just let them sit in CL purgatory (pending someday combination) or put them out of their misery?

Close the QS1 and leave the QS in the sock drawer.

You said it yourself, both are low CL bucketed cards, I doubt combining them will get you a much higher or more useful CL as you said. To add to that, the QS is the older one so combining the QS1 into the QS would leave you with a card exactly as old as the QS. Since the QS1 has an AF and costs money to keep around, close it and leave the other one to gather dust.

Lol, plenty of 1.5% Cash back cards out there who only pull once, maybe twice (still better than 3Smiley Wink ) id invest my time in a different lender and you can always revist CapOne for their other cards when your profile is better.

When it comes to 1.5% cash back, my CFU gets the job done. It has only taken a backseat due to the cash back match with my Disco. And since I'm currently gardening presumably for two years, I will probably look to a second Dicover card down the road or consider getting in with Citi. Other than that, I'm keeping my deck tight. I certainly have no desire to do business with CapOne in the future, after these Quicksilvers are done.

Solid advice. What irks me is that my older, QS has the lower limit of the two, while the QS1's AF is practically pointless. I might let them sit to the end of the year and if no CLI's or combinations unfold, it's curtains.

Re: Good Ole Cap One

How much time are you spending thinking about this and how often?

If it's often then it's time to make a decision and give them the axe or throw it in a shredder and let it expire or wait for the renewal card.

Re: Good Ole Cap One

Everyone should close their bucketed capital one cards if possible. Maybe we can send a message to them about their annoying quirks, such as buckets, secured cards that don’t graduate, non-combinable cards... or at the very least we can simplify our lives and stop worrying about when capital one is going to finally raise the CLI another hundred bucks on a card we don’t need anymore anyway. I’ll just stick with Citi double cash for general spend. All of my other cards are better than my quicksilver was.

Re: Good Ole Cap One

Yup, say no to Crap One bucketed cards. So many better 2%, 3% cards out there without buckets and AF. Like citi DC etc.

5k+ CLs: Chase Amazon, Cap1 QS1,
10k+ CLs: BofA Cash Rewards, Amex Cash Magnet, Citi DC, Barclays Uber, Citi Premier, Chase Saphire Preff,Cap1 Savor1

Torch bearer of the Bucketeers' Society. Shamefully carrying a bucketed Cap One QS1 with AF & zero chance of a PC.

That's not happening. Smiley LOL There are way too many people who thank Cap1 for giving them a chance and Cap1 has been a lifesaver, when every other creditor gave them the stinkeye.

For those of us--and I was one of them--who have outgrown Cap1 and don't need them anymore, just close the card. That's what I did in 2010. Sometimes it's just time to say goodbye--no hard feelings.
