@KJinNC wrote:I think this will be largely profile-dependent - like for me, Chase and US Bank would be hard right now due to 5/24 and 1/12. For other profiles, they'd be average. Wallethub has a list of hardest cards to get. I am not saying their list is correct, but anyway, for what it's worth, their list is:
CenturionCSR
US Bank Altitude ReserveJP Morgan Reserve
Simmons Bank Visa
For business, they list Wells Fargo Business Elite Signature
If I owned a bank or credit card issuer, I'd create a card that's super-difficult to get, like require an 840 EX 8 and 0/48 or whatever plus some other stringest requirements, simply so my card would appear on lists like this
I wonder why a small (relatively speaking) bank out of Arkansas would be on that list...I am looking at you, Simmons. lol

Stringent UW criteria that dates back to the 90s. They had similar competition from Iberia and Amalgamated Bank of Chicago throughout the early 2000s and were touted as the lowest APR CCs in the market at the time.
For some, it was the holy grail of CCs, for others it was "Ive arrived". But, in a nutshell, when you have NFCU or other FIs or CUs that basically can be had with much lower APRs than those advertised by Simmons Bank, then it's more a cult following. For one, their CLs are nothing to write home about (nothing like NFCU, Chase, Citi, etc.), and two, their rewards are not exactly that stellar by comparison.
A family member has had their Simmons Bank CC when they were 'the thing', but it's more of a 'coaster' these days than an actual functional CC.

Yes. Wanting Simmons always seemed a little strange. I think a good set of companion questions would be: suppose you had acquired the objectively hardest card.
1) how would you quantify the achievement.
2( How many of your real-world community would understand and appreciate your victory? Eg my doting grandmother "I'm so proud of my clever LTL! He's only gone and won himself one of them Chase diamond superpreferred. Gets a free diamond every time he uses it!" Doesn't pass the appreciate test

Give me all your miles and cash back, and I'll give you a diamond with every purchase!
Industrial diamond powder runs about 10 cents a carat.
The JPM Reserve is not difficult to get approved for. If you can get approved for a Sapphire Reserve, the same exact lending rules apply for the JPM Reserve card. It's just the actual qualification for getting let in the door first that matters, much like the Centurion, ML Octave, etc.
Hardest lender IMO is US Bank. They're inquiry sensitive to a ridiculous degree, will monitor your report for any other trade lines opened soon after approval, and only allow 1 recent new trade in the last 12 months . Though both Citi and Barclays are also incredibly inquiry sensitive and will flat out deny for more than 2 inquiries in the last 6 months.
I don't have a Barclay card, except as an AU, but I do have two Citi cards, and I had tons of inquiries at the time I opened them. So maybe it depends on the card or profile.

I don't think they are hardest, I got 4 personal cards in less than 3 years with, in addition to other accounts with other lenders. I was within "the rules" only once.
Last one happened with 7 accounts under a year
Profile dependent, just like everything else.

To the average consumer, to go 6 months without getting a new credit card is not a difficult challenge.
@CYBERSAM wrote:DC Power Visa® Credit Card! Back when it came out many with excellent credit got denied! The card is noting special, just was hard to get approve for! I don't think anyone cares for this card anymore.
Oh no my friend you are wrong here. The card was special because it sported some of our most iconic Superheros, some credit cards are so bland its like finding a 4 leaf ☘️, As for no one wanting it don't really think that's the case it's just we got our hearts broke upon instant rejection lol. I agree it was a very difficult card to get.
For me most of the cards mentioned upthread are out of my league, or obtainable at my station in life but I'd say depending on where ones profile is, an easy card may be hard to obtain or it might be reverse. In my situation my credit is good but my debt and income prevent me from getting almost any card at the moment 🙃 others can be difficult to obtain due to geography as well
