you would use Citi Custom Cash for gas only, and that would automatically make gas your primary category to earn 5% on up to $500 spend every month.
don't forget you're allowed to have more than 2 Custom Cards. Let's say you have 4 custom card, that means you have $2k spending power in gas monthly.

Well I figured out gas for next quarter it's 5% on my freedom flex through September

In this era of $5/gal, let's talk about gas.
Disco (and sometimes Affinity and Chase) have quarter-specific 5% offers.
For new Freedom Unlimited cards, Chase has a one-year offer for 5%. And the PNC Cash Rewards offers 4%.

Well my two cards that give larger rewards on gas both only give 3%. The NFCU MoreRewards Amex, and the Amex BCP.
Citi Costco VS offers 4% and of course, you could opt to use Citi Custom Cash MC as your dedicated gas card for 5%
Unfortunately the only gas card I knew of that was greater than 3% unlimited spend gas rewards was: https://www.cardless.com/cards/pelicans
All the other greater than 3% gas rewards cards have $6k-ish annual gas or combined spend limits, or policies that restrict card membership, such as Abound CU ...
