You can show responsible card usage without obsessing over CLIs. Yes, theyre nice, but you dont need to 10 25k cards to build a history, either. My point was that self worth shouldnt be defined by credit cards or limits.
On this, I will be presumptuous and assert that NO ONE on this forum, or on this planet would argue against.

Yes, and perhaps part of the issue is the normal over-dramatization on the internet. If I say I feel insulted/disgusted/deeply hurt when bank X doesn't give me a CLI (when I have been a loyal customer for hundreds of years etc etc etc), I don't REALLY mean in, at least not as strongly as if my boss/SO/best friend told me that I wasn't worthwhile in some way. And I might end the relationship with a CCC just because it really isn't that important.

While nobody comes out and says "I define my worth by my cards and limits", there are users whose subtext seems to imply that their limits do indeed define their worth.
Whatever makes one happy is what they need to pursue and if large limits make you happy, pursue them. From a credit well being standpoint, all you need is enough for your spending that allows you to keep util low. Anything else is basically extra.
From all the years of reading on this forum, I can't recall a time when I inferred from a post that anyone felt his/her worth as an individual is/were defined by the CLs s/he (easier than using he/she, plagiarized this from LadyJ) attained. However, I have noticed that some exhibit a sense of pride, relief, and accomplishment upon reaching that plateau (which all should, if only from a Fico scoring perspective) when "high" CLs are ultimately attained.
In my view, this is natural, and should be expected.

If op had lost his credit due to bad choices, job loss divorce or all the above… getting a new card with a 1k limit, and doubling it, is a positive emotional experience. Utilization is doubled. Creditors will soft pull and grant larger limits and more increases in the future.
Most members aren't here with 800 scores they were given by their parents and never messed up. A lot of it has been extra work above and beyond what most outside of this site even know how to implement when its necessary.
I would not consider a 1K limit a decent amount and of course doubling it would be positive. Mine was more about those with higher limits which cover the vast majority of spend and the seeming "need" for ever high amounts as well as the anguish described by not consistently recieving a higher amount. And I've seen a lot of why some people feel that way even though it still perplexes me like it has many in this thread. I have a better understanding of the thought process behind some and the desire for ever increasing limits.
