Have you considered USAA? IME, the limits grow fast and they're generous with CLs.
Hey there! I am in a similar situation, (19 yo college student, similar income).
As far as getting a higher CL on USAA, it's going to be pretty difficult if you are anything like me. If you haven't found out already, USAA CLIs are HPs. I got my USAA card when I turned 18 ($500 SL), took the HP 6 months in to get to $1500. That was over a year ago, and they won't approve me for a CLI now, but I've been able to get $5k SLs from other lenders. As a result I do not use this card much, and probably won't any time soon.
My advice to you would be to maybe try to get a card from Amex since they are much nicer when it comes to CLIs. I like my BCE, because I use it for gas and groceries, it is used multiple times per month but carry less than 9% util. Also when I got it they allowed me a 0% interest BT, which I used and then payed off in 2 months.

Chances are if you prequal for a low interest rate, you will get a high limit.
20 years old. Can't Pre-qual. I would personally look at Discover, or Quicksilver. No AF and can grow decently with soft pulls. If you're a 20 year old Pre-Med it's going to be a number of years before you can really take advantage of some of the travel cards to justify the Annual Fees.
I think you're in an excellent position to apply for an AMEX revolver.
Above all have fun in life.
