It's typically added to your balance, and posts by the end of the statement, oftentimes before you can even PIF to get the statement to report $0!

On some cards, yes! Many AF cards offer to waive the first year's annual fee, so you won't see that sucker until your one year anniversary date's statement posts!
Correct so that date is when it will come up next year. Most of mine appear during the first billing cycle, some have appeared in the second billing cycle.
Okay would you say that its better for you to have a $0 balance when the year gets closer so that only the af gets charged and paid off on that statement.
