Re: How long after paying off charge off with Amex to apply again? Score I should have before applyi

I personally owed them 1400 (charge off) and initiated payment last year. February was approved for ed card and green card. 3 weeks later blue cash everyday card... This month Hilton Honors card. Totalling 4 amex cards in the last 4 months. Paying them in full with a good score will get you back in or in my case it did. First approval I think my experian was like 675 and it's now 691. I would say if your score is above 670 and utilization is low (mines was and is still low under 5%) pull the trigger as I got back in less than a year after paying my charge off in full. Good luck!!!

Not sure if I 100% agree with this.. Although with that said I have never been on their blacklist.  Just making an analogy if someone paid me back say 2 years after I had lent them money that was agreed to be paid a month or two or whatever later and it took them x years to pay it, I certainly would never lend them money again.  There is a saying out there goes something like this.. "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me".   Only burnt one lender which I paid back and they were very forgiving and that was Cap1, but no longer with them as ended that relationship on my part after the massive CLD of 20k, which I understood why they did due to very low useage and many other high CL cards.

I think the OP does have a decent chance to get back in with Amex, the only way they know is to apply if they are blacklisted still or not.

Confirmed with Amex a while ago that once you paid off balance owed you will not be automatically denied for "Unsatisfactory History." You still need to meet standard credit requirements.

Also, Its been reported that some folks have been getting approved with an unpaid balance owed to Amex, so they seem to be loosening up a bit.

I agree with your sentiments about paying them back on time, but alot of folks go through hard times and if all credit card companies blacklist for not paying as agreed, they would hardly have any customers. The fact that someone pays back a charged off balance does say something.

I believe they have two different programs for people with prior issues 1) the optima plan 2) the $500 card with no  sign up bonus.  I also believe that perhaps due to number of members lost in the costco deal atleat for a while it will be easier to get it.

Just posted about this couple weeks back.  They were very forgiving on my part.
