I think at this point going back to cash only just to prove your self disclipline is not necessary. You're now  leaving pointsa nd/or cashback on the table. Use a PRG or something at least

If someone needs a break from cards, that's more important than leaving tiny rewards on the table. Not that taxi is overspending, but if someone were overspending and overwhelemed with cards, then yes, they need to leave the rewards behind for a bit and streamline things first. It is not always just about "rewards, rewards, rewards!"

Sometimes people make it sound like "OMG! You left 1% on the table in rewards on that purchase! What is WRONG with you!?"....but there are other factors that may need to be addressed. Rewards are part of the equation but it's not the only thing.

Me, I have to use some Cash Daily so its not really hard for me to think even if only $2. But now im thinking, How long can i go without using my Credit Cards? Well I will find out, im putting ban on my credit cards and see how long can i go without using. Im not gonna mention my automatic payments or recurring charges. as that is a must, but taking one out of my wallet. this will be my new text for the month of August. As a matter of fact. im not gonna even leave home with a single credit card in my pocket. So this will help. I will just take Debit card for Atm Withdrawal just in case.

Sometimes it's good to take a step back and reevaluate things. You may end up finding you want to close some of them after the experiment.

You are probably Right Kdm. I will see what happens at the end of the month. Declining Balances and no new usage. This is the Goal. I am still not sure the best strategy for closing Down a Credit Card. For sure will keep my oldest. But the ones in between oldest and newest are more than likely on the chopping Block.

First up to Bat. Macys. Amex and store card. I just don't use and am not a fan of all the Different tradelines involved. Club account, Special events. Revolver and Amex. Why 4 accounts with the same damn lender. no thanks. after maybe Total Rewards and a couple others. Even considering the Holy Grail. Amex. gotta go. At least the Green and Pc Delta. I really don't know the fascination but most of us always wanted an Amex. But me when i got one. I find they don't fit my needs. The Charge Card imo. Obsolete. Why force me to pay bill in full. I can use my Debit card and say to hell with you. So whats the point of me using my money with them. Im gonna need help when it comes to closing down accounts and im not sure how it will all affect my fico scores.

Um, charge card is just like a debit card and has better protection.  Amex doesn't force you to pif, you know that going in.  So if one is to over spend on a charge card then you would have over drafted your debit card.  If problems occur with misuse, it's user error not amex or other CCC.  I will never use a debit card just for fraud protection.

Over the summer I wanted to see how long I could go without using cash, even charged my $2 coffee.

I went 63 days.  We went to a restaurant on vacation for breakfast and they didn't take credit cards, end of streak.

What is this "cash" you speak of OP?

Re: How long have you gone without using cash

I use credit cards for basically everything except haircuts ($6) and pho (as has been mentioned before).  Heck, even my "cash" down payment for my new car this past weekend was a credit card.  $5K charge for 20,000 points.  Don't mind if I do!

Re: How long have you gone without using cash

Use cash often. Small town living and a concern with privacy.

I tend to reserve my ccs for large purchases, online purchases, and places/circumstances where I'll get unusually good rewards for doing so (like 5% on Sallie Mae MC for groceries and gas). Yes, I leave a lot of 1%s on the table, but I help out some very small businesses and help control my own spending since it's a fact that most of us tend to spend more when we use cards than when we use cash.

Not quite like debit. But the concept is simular. I said nothing of using a debit. Only to withdraw cash. And the 1 percent is irrelevant at this point. I don't overspend. But as most cAn see. From the name. I drive a taxi. So cash is a must. Biggest expense is gas. But some places charge more for credit cards. So cash is needed to save. It wipes out the rewards. Yes. Cash today and rest of month. Just to see how low my balances that im carrying can go. Without any further use of my cards.
