Imagine how surprised you'll be when you figure out that the AMEX Gold Rewards card really isn't one of the *hard to get* AMEX cards.

Once you have an AMEX they try to push this card and the Delta Gold on you like a drug.

If I were going to be impressed with someone based on the cards they had Discover and PenFed would certainly be higher than AMEX on my list.

In fact I'd be more *impressed* with a BofA AMEX than an American Express AMEX, unless it's a Centurion as Tuscani mentioned - which I don't think I'll ever see outside of a picture online anyway.

American Express the company isn't as prestigious as people think as they have become much easier to get than in the past.

I've seen one of those Centurions!!! My boss has one. Of course I didn't know how "prestigious" it was until now. The first thing out of my mouth when I saw that card was, "That's a funky looking card." hahaha

Really? Your boss has one? That's crazy!!!!  Where do you work???? lol. I'd never imagine seeing one in person. Not too many wealthy high spenders around here....

Re: How sad is this....?

Prestige? Status? All because of a credit card?

With all due respect and I sincerely mean that... wake up folks. Nothing says more about a person that seeing them pay with CASH.

Seriously.

I agree with you to a point. There are certain subprime cards that I'd be embarrassed to use in person. When you start talking about cards that are PRIME, that's where I'll need to differ in opinion. Really when it comes down to it, who am I to judge someone by how they pay for something? What does it matter to me?

Re: How sad is this....?

I think some of us take our credit for granted, in that we just expect to get approved for prime cards and we're just plain used to it. There are others that have not been as fortunate as us though, so it's a bigger deal for those who haven't been able to hold a Prime card yet...

Most of us have cell phones today and it's no big deal. But what about someone who hasn't been able to afford a cell phone? It's certainly going to be a bigger deal to them than it us to us because we've been used to it...

Just trying to see this from a different perspective...

EXACTLY! Up until a couple months ago I had NEVER had a prime CC. In fact I had 3 CCs, an orchard and 2 Crap1 cards. I now have 8 PRIME cards. I must say the 2 I'm most proud of are the Discover and RBS, both from CCCs that aren't easy to get (much harder than AMEX) and both *decent* CLs as far as both of these CCCs go.

Discover is hard to get, PenFed is easier to get than Blue and maybe even clear. Some Amex cards are easy to get while others are not.

Re: How sad is this....?

Aside from the distinction of prime and subprime cards...

I just look for cards that have the features I want, then I'll weigh my chances of being approved/denied based on my scores and perhaps ask other people for their opinions Smiley Happy I would never try to get a card just because of its prestige...

Interesting, I got denied by PenFed and approved from AMEX, I have both Clear and Blue. PenFed loves to use the Pyramiding debts term. I'll wait about 6-7 months and then try for PenFed, Navy and NASA.

Hmmm...Strange! I have heard of people being TD for Amex Blue and Clear and approved by Penfed. Just proves scores are not everything!
