Lol. This is why colleges should be required to have like a 1 credit class for financial planning and stuff. College students really need to know how to do this As much as I love helping the people on these forums (with information I learned from other people on these forums
) and my friends at school, it is something they should learn in school
I also think they need to teach more about credit in school.
I 100% agree. It's ridiculous. Im actually pretty PO'd that my parents didn't teach me more. I swear this stuff will be engrained into my son's brain. No one taught me anything...I'm literally just now learning and I'm 29. How sad.

Credit scores aren't too relevant when your credit is so new. Most likely any applications will be subjected to manual review, and they will see your limited history. Try applying with your bank at the 6 month point. They will see the activity in your checking account and hopefully approve you. Who do you bank with?

Main reason I'm so interested in credit is because my mom had to declare BK a few years back, and I don't want to ever end up having to do that. and +1 to the highlighted part!!
And it isn't sad, it is good that you're taking the initiative and coming to this forum at all. There is plenty of people older than you who still don't know the first thing about credit. I remember when I took economics in HS a few years ago our teacher would always ramble about credit cards, and I come here now and realize he had no idea what he was talking about. and I HATE when people say they know people with credit cards with "no spending limit" ---- NPSL does not mean "NO LIMIT" OMGGG it pisses me off so much

Ya my parents really failed to teach us kids about money and credit... everything ive learned is from the good old school of hard knocks plus this forum.
My 11 yr old already knows the difference between debit cards and credit cards. She knows that checks are written and it takes money from your checking account. She knows about IRAs and she knows about FICOs lol.
At one point she fussed at me for using the credit card to pay for something instead of my debit card because ive taught her that credit cards are like loans that you have to pay back... so this prompted a discussion about rewards credit cards and paying in full so that you don't cancel out your rewards with interest payments.
Good info for a 11 yr old lol
My sister up until she was like 16 used to use the line "Mom, just put it on your credit card, then you don't have to pay for it" and I (who was a few years younger than her) would just sit there and laugh
my parents think credit cards are the devil..... my mom's FINALLY coming around cause I have 50k in the bank right now, and they're willing to help me for a house. But over $10,000 would raise eyebrows since we're trying to buy a small perfect condition house in a good neighborhood for $78,000 CASH ONLY house.
So I said let's do this, give me $10,000 for my car, and I'll put $18,000 on my credit card (5-6% APR) so that would only be about $100 a month in interest rates. Which we could pay off in 2-3 months anyways so not worried. Since my parents are doing this together. So this way I can buy the house for CASH and get an amazing deal on it, and build my credit as well. So... yea =)
Best part is this way after it's paid off, I can also have a better relationship with my bank and get another house if I find a good deal with financing. My mom was like =O
