He holds the Navy Credit stuff on his own... I have my own Checking Savings and then we have our Joint Checking and Savings... so I actually got a hug from Navy that his NavCheck is attached to our joint checking and is listed on my credit report as a "Joint" account but it was very much done without me on the app!!!

I'm AU on the 2 credit cards

and have manager rights on the accounts (which doesn't work nearly as well as Amex!)

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

creditaddict - How long had your partner been a member with Navy before applying for the Navchek? Since you said it had been over a year since supplying paystubs, that could be the difference maker. I have yet to read of anyone who is brand new to Navy and never supplied any kind of supporting income being given the Navchek instantly. Navy told me over the phone, they consider it a loan application and thus they ask for supporting income docs. I would say that I am really surprised that your partner got the instant - unless he did have income docs on file already. Please clarify because I do love knowing more and more about NFCU!

it was instant approved BUT even if they don't need income (Which I agree if they have not seen income statements from you yet, they 99% probably will want them with NavCheck) but regardless what they want from you, if paystubs or not, it still is not active for you to use online and they don't send the checks UNTIL they send and you sign a physical application and mail it back... then it became active online... but he got instant approval online with no conditions.

he joined about 1.5-2 years ago I think.... he had his cashrewards open at $25k for one year when we requested to $35k which was approved after 2 days. he had to give paystubs back shortly after the credit card was open to satisfy condition of an auto refi.

The navcheck I think has been open...

Silly me, I have my credit report that I can look at!!!

Cashrewards open 1-2012 - that was about 1 month after he joined navy through me

actually the navchek is not on my tu... think it was about march or april that navcheck was opened

then in May/June he took $5k of the $35k cashrewards to open the Flagship because Navy said at the time the $35k was enough.

clearly with the recent increase on the Flagship Navy changes that quickly on internal limit Smiley Happy (and very happy for that!)

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

creditaddict - Thanks for the further clarification. Ok, so with the longer history with NFCU prior and the paystubs on file with the auto refi, I am speculating that was more likely the reason for the instant approval. Since OP is a new member, its more likely they will ask for supporting income docs. Either way, its good to know the experiences of others.

Keep us posted OP!

oh for sure, paystubs probably required but that doesn't chance the chances of a $15k approval unless op can't provide such paystubs Smiley Happy

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

It will definitely be another hard pull. Even if you get approved for $5000 cc is no guarantee, but YMMV. My other half was approved for a higher cc than me @ $6k and was denied for navcheck with scores in the 500 range. I was denied navcheck due to bk13 still showing, but I have about one month and I'm free. I still can't believe the cc limit and I was not given anything near that with better scores. Oh well.

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

Thanks again for the TJX cc info. I shop at one of the 3 stores regularly and that card makes sense. I was there today but too scared to do the app. I think I need to wait. Interestingly, they offered the Mastercard app not the store card. I would rather that card anyway but we shall see...

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

TJX is backed by GE and pulls TU, they consider you for the MasterCard first then just store card if you don't qualify... 620+ is good enough.

Re: How soon should I apply for Navchek?

I'm only responding to relay some personal experience with NFCU. A while back- while car shopping- I apped online for the auto financing. I recieved instant approval and the only think I had to provide was a signature. No proof of income or anything. I ended up declining the loan but the papers were in hand the next day with only thing requested was my signatures on documents. I assume that this will hold true if you have a long history and high FICO for the NavCheck also. Just my thoughts on the subject.
