How to handle Walmart CC situation

Hello Everyone,

I need some advice please and thank you.  Quick summary: I have been a Walmart cardholder since 2007. About 7 months ago I fell into a bit of a financial pickle and was not able to make a payment for 3 months on this card. After calling CS, I was informed that my account was temporarily closed and once I was caught up on my payments, my account would be back to good standing and my charging privileges would be re-instated. So I set up a 6 month re-curring payment plan to make that happen. Today, I check my account to make sure all is going according to plan, and something inside me says to contact them just to make sure all is good (September I would have been caught up). According to an agent and a manager, I was misinformed and there is nothing they can do. My account has been closed since April and no they cannot re-open my account due to "...FCRA(Fair credit reporting act) as well as Fair Lending Act", as it would be a violation.  I thanked them for their time, canceled my remaining recurring payments, and am now taking some deep breathes.

Okay, so the purpose of my post. I have every intention of paying this account - of course, it's my responsibility. With that being said, I am so frustrated! Being with them for 10 years, having one minor setback, calling them to resolve it, being lied to, and now losing the card, GRRR!!!

  • Do I settle the account and request a letter from them stating they will not report negatively to the credit bureaus?
  • Do I continue with monthly payments with their high interest rates?
  • What can I do that will not hurt me as much?

Thank you so much for your advice!

I would advise you pay it off. Letting it go to a CO is going to make it worse.
