TPG July 2024 valuation for Marriott points are 0.85 cpp vs. Hilton's 0.6 cpp (was 0.5 cpp in May). The small difference should easily be recouped by staying at a slightly property (same tier) from each portfolio within a city.
And yes, @redpat , tbh I've gotten nothing out of Hilton Gold status except the oohs and ahhs of a status...

Although I think The Points Guy is an excellent site, I have to take their valuations with a grain of salt, because they have a lot more time than I do to calculate what to do to get the most value, and because usually their biggest values come from luxury travel. I am a budget traveler with few brain cells to spare. I just take a room or flight that I would actually use, and compare the cash price to the points, and do the arithmetic.
I.e. I can't tell what a point is worth in the greater scheme of things; I only know what it's worth to me.

Comparing Hilton and Hyatt, two things come to mind. First, the multipliers for each. If we take the $95 WoH and compare it to the $150 Hilton Surpass - which is apples and oranges out the gate, especially with a different AF, but targeting similar customers and both have ways of offsetting the fee - then the WoH will give 9X total on stays (4X through card + 5X as Discoverist) while the Surpass will give 30X total on stays (12X through card + 18X as Gold). Again, apples and oranges, but a similar customer will earn 3.33X as many points through Hilton.
Second, how each system approaches selling points. Hilton points are sold for 1cpp when not at a bonus but are often on sale for .5cpp. Hyatt points are sold for 2.4cpp when not not at a bonus and are sometimes sold as low as 1.54cpp. Comparing the bonus / sale prices, one can buy 3.08X as many points for the same amount through Hilton.
I do not have historical data for Hyatt yet, as I had one booking that would have been 2.03cpp but we ended up paying elsewhere due to two stacked deals. For Hilton I have a bunch of historical data, and my current value based on prices we'd pay is .63cpp. 2.03 / .63 = 3.22, pretty similar to the numbers above.
Will need much more Hyatt data to be more sure, but if Hyatt points are worth 3.22X what Hilton Points are for me personally, but I earn 3.33X as many points through Hilton, plus I can buy 3.08X as many, then there's going to be a lot of times where the math ends up being closer than expected.

They value Hilton points at .48 cpp - very close to the search in the op.
I find their methodology pretty interesting - they look at a number of major hotel markets with standard reward availability with a guest rating of 4 or better, then include a weekday, weekend, and holiday for each in their calculations. On one hand, that does make it more fair by applying the same rules across all chains, and .48cpp as a median across the board seems right. But on the other, it doesn't account for the strengths of each program. For Hilton, for us that has been five-night stays at higher-end places away from cities, while they seemed to focus on cities and did not factor in the fifth night free with points.
.48cpp is viewed as the 50th percentile for Hilton redemptions, but if one gets .60cpp, then that is seen as the 80th percentile. But here's the thing - if one had a .48cpp redemption per night but wanted to stay five nights, the fifth night free with points raises it to .60cpp, effectively raising one to the 80th percentile. So if you're willing to hold onto points for a five-night stay, even a dead middle redemption will become a decent use of points.
It's also an interesting thought in general - if one doesn't travel often, they may want to know a median cpp, something they could get at least somewhat reliably. But if people travel more often, they have more opportunities to plug points in when they are most valuable, all while racking up points with paid stays thanks to high brand multipliers.
