Well, we have "needed" someone to test out getting the first store card to see what scoring effect there might be, so you might be our guinea pig volunteer! Smiley Very Happy

I hope that you have recent FICO EQ and TU scores without the card that you can compare to new scores after it reports! --I can't remember if you're one of our compulsive score pullers, like me.

Congrats on the new card!

Hauling I would do it, but being a guinea pig volunteer does not pay well.

Oh....I forgot...you already know that it does not.Smiley Very Happy

I would love to volunteer. Unfortunately I am ruled out - I already have a store card!

Re: I bit the bullet and applied for a store card

Yay for Team Guinea Pig!  I hope a lot of people will play.  (I love data points).  DH & I sought out store cards in an effort to increase our FICO scores.  Here’s our Guinea Pig results:

Me

Started with no current revolving credit, two installment loans.

 Added Orchard Visa  +20 pts.

Added Macy’s (Not Visa)   -5 pts.

Added 3 GEMB cards all same day   +5 pts.

 Added BofA  0 pts

DH

Started with no current revolving credit, one mortgage, one installment loan.

 Added Orchard Visa  +28 pts.

Added Alliant CU Visa  +2 pts.

 Added Cabela’s Visa   0 pts.

 Added Macy’s Visa   0 pts.

Added GEMB Care Credit  +1 pt.

 Added Kroger’s Visa   +6 pts.

 Added BofA   -2 pts.

Do members of Team Guinea Pig get cute t-shirts?  I like the “Bit the Bullet” theme.  Maybe in red??  Smiley Wink

Team guinea pig "sounds" like a great idea.Smiley Wink

I will be curious to know which members will join the team and take unnecessary risk with their current FICO scores for the members.Smiley Happy

I would truly appreciate that!Smiley Very Happy

I would have done the store card thing if I didn't already have one.   Smiley Wink

Hauling knows I do not have one, do not want nor need one, but if she asked me.... I would do it because she asked.Smiley Happy

Awww.... Smiley Very Happy

You know, I was thinking, though: an even better test of whether store cards help would be for someone who has one already, and has had it for a year or so, to close it.

That way, there wouldn't be the confusion created by the presence of the inq, the addition of the account and CL, and the new account ding.

This would only work if someone were closing their only or last store card, and if the rest of their report weren't rocking and rolling.

So if Team Guinea Pig has any potential new members who might be thinking of getting rid of that last store card, let us know! (For goodness' sake, don't close a card over so frivolous a reason, though --only if you're getting ready to do it anyway.)
