Close Marvel and keep Wally, that I don't get.
Not a lot of folks would close cards that have decent limits because they don't have the forsight. Makes sense to me with the blue envelopes being handed out. Well done mane, well done.
Cool! I closed jcrew, express and chevron a month ago.
@Anonymous wrote:I'm a little confused. You had a guaranteed $11k in two combined Visa and MCs. You closed them down hoping to get a $7k increase on WalMart. If your request is approved you still gave up $4k in spending power. You could have used either card you closed at WalMart. I'm thinking you get bored easily. I got a call yesterday and did not answer because I did not recognize who it was. Looked on the internet and found all kinds of answers but many said it was Synchrony. I called back and it appears it was Synchrony. The lady spoke plain English. She asked me if the phone number I was using was connected to my account. I said yes. She tells me it was odd because they have no accounts that listed my cell number. Then she said "what's your social security number?" I gave it to her and she said it wasn't in their system. She told me to call back in a few minutes and it might be a computer glitch but I never did. When I got home I went straight to the internet to check my three Synchrony accounts. They were still open. Guess I need to watch all of my credit card accounts for a while since I gave out my SSN #. They don't know my name though because my cell # is not in my name.
I'm a little concerned that you willingly provided your most personable identifiable information to an unidentified "rep" who requested for this information over the phone. Never and I mean N-E-V-E-R do this. Always ask for the person or agent requesting such sensitive matters to properly identify themselves and ask for a good contact number and extension (if applicable) to dial right back to confirm validity.
I don't mean to piggyback on this post but considering my line of work and being exposed to tons of personal and sensitive information on a daily, this upset me as most of my client's will report that they are getting numerous calls from supposed "tax settlements" and "mortgage refinance offers" to whatever else you could think of. Having been employed with the feds for a number of years has taught me to value any and all sensitve information as if it is my own. Please heavily monitor your CR's and just be safe check with SSA for possible fraud.
My purge was done many months ago. Only PayPal Extras MC to free up some distance to Max exposure.
Comenity purge for me was a pile of store cards over about a year ago and then TotalReward Visa this summer but only to add back a couple of their Bankcard versions such as Marathon Visa & True Value Discover.
Jcrew, Barney'sNY were the store card keepers courtesy their accelerated limit growth.
Kudos to you for eliminating unneccesary plastic. Only you know what is best based off your spending needs.
The number that called me was (330) 433-5039. Go investigate for yourselves how many websites say it's Synchrony bank. We had just arrived at the grocery store. Seems like every call I get that I don't know who it is is while I am away from home. I used my Samsung phone to do as good of an internet search as I could away from home. Was scared of that blue envelope. So they got my SSN number. They don't have my name, address, assets or anything else. I login to my accounts everyday so if my cards are used in other states it can easily be disputed (because I am at home and not in the state of the fraudulent purchases).
It was crazy that you gave your SS# out on the phone, I've never would and have never been asked. I would freeze my credit reports if I were you (mine have been frozen a year next month).

CC, I don't think you understand my concern and the severity of this issue with my previous post. By no means neccesary am I condemning you for what happened, because that is not the case and certainly not my intention. Just an FYI, "professional" thieves do NOT need to "know" your name, address, or any assets you possess. Your master serial (SSN) number will provide all that and then some. Internet sites can claim a ton of bogus and outdated information as to the validity of such company and their distributed phone numbers, so if I were you I'd take your research lightly and go straight to the source (Synchrony) and flat at ask a rep if they've been trying to reach you or made contact with you recently based off the notes in their database. That right there will give you better insight into this matter, rather being spooked by a blue envelope.
I'm only stressing this as I know how daunting the process of recoverying one's stolen identity once its used and abused by the wrong type of individuals. Just be a lot more cautious and extremely careful going forward when handling your business. Take care ![]()
