I need guidance on what to do!!!

hey guys.

im 43 years old, i have a thin file and short history.
heres what i have (chime secured card! Amazon store card 500 dollars, credit one visa 400 bucks, authorized user on a capital one venture card and just got approved 2 weeks ago for the cap one platinum 300.

my scores are between 688 and 721.  I have a short history, longest card ive had is 6 minths with the chime secured.  Everything else was opened within the last 2 months.
So i need some guidance, i want to open up one more account, to pad my account a little bit and then i guess garden for a while.  Im using the prequalification tools on all the sites i can find.  I was prequalified last night for a lowes card for 800 bucks but did not accept, and i was prequalified for the kohls card but did not accept.  I wanted options first.  I really want to get someth8ng like a capital one venture card with a limit in the thousands.  My questions are as follows.

1.  Should i just stick with what i have and garden these accounts for a while?n lne, ind

2.  Capital one owns kohls, so if i take there preapproval offer will it look good into getting a better cap one card in the future?

3. Half of synchrony cards pre approve me, half do not.  I was thinking about the comenity ross store card since i shop there, but im worried about not getting approved and hav8ng another inquiry, do you guys think i have a decent chance of getting there store card?

4.  Are there any easy cards to get that youwould reccomend?    My problem 8s that i havent established any of my accounts long enough, i wish i had started this a year ago!

thankyou so much for reading this.  By the way i was not pre approved for discover, citi, or any of the big companies or mission lane, indigo etc.

  • I would stand pat where you are for a minimum of 6 more months. Then see where your scores are and what your pre-approvals look like
  • Practice AZE0 by only allowing a small ($10 to $20) balance report on only one of your cards every month.
  • Seek out CLIs when the cards you have now become eligible
  • For most people, this is a marathon, not a sprint, the passage of time on the calender is one of the biggest factors in this game, and sometimes, we're forced to be patient, when we want the exact opposite.
  • Bigger and better things will come your way

Re: I need guidance on what to do!!!

You are going to get a lot of different answers.

I believe your option of  "Stick with what have and garden".

is the best choice. Just my 2c

1.  Should i just stick with what i have and garden these accounts for a while?n lne, ind

This would be my advice.  Your profile is very young, and four cards is plenty to garden and build credit on.  At this point, additional applications will just result in more toy limits or denials, and, as additional credit seeking, would probably push approvals on the better cards you're wanting out further into the future.  In your place, I would garden until your most recently-opened card is at least a year old before looking to open any more cards.

2.  Capital one owns kohls, so if i take there preapproval offer will it look good into getting a better cap one card in the future?

What will look good for an app on a different Cap1 card in the future will be what good looks good on any credit app, e.g. good payment history, good scores, good DTI, etc.

3. Half of synchrony cards pre approve me, half do not.  I was thinking about the comenity ross store card since i shop there, but im worried about not getting approved and hav8ng another inquiry, do you guys think i have a decent chance of getting there store card?

I don't know much about Comenity, but probably, since store cards w/ toy limits are pretty easy to get.  But, as I said in answering 1, I don't think it would be in your best interest for credit building to apply for another card right now.  A strong profile, and the premium-card approvals that can come with it, takes time to build.

4.  Are there any easy cards to get that youwould reccomend?    My problem 8s that i havent established any of my accounts long enough, i wish i had started this a year ago!

As stated above, I would recommend gardening and working with the cards you already have for at least a year.  Any "easy" approval now is probably going to be a toy-limit starter or store card that likely won't be of much value over the long term.

thankyou so much for reading this.  By the way i was not pre approved for discover, citi, or any of the big companies or mission lane, indigo etc.

QFE.

Put credit cards out of your mind for 12 months. After that, first order of business is canceling your Credit One card, they are a predatory lender. IMHO no one should ever open an account with Credit One, but live and learn. Credit One was my first card so don't feel bad, it happens to the best of us. Next I'd apply for a Chase Freedom Flex, and possibly one other card. Return here for advice in 12 months.

Yes, the best thing  you could do would be to garden for awhile.

2.  Capital one owns kohls, so if i take there preapproval offer will it look good into getting a better cap one card in the future?

No.

3. Half of synchrony cards pre approve me, half do not.  I was thinking about the comenity ross store card since i shop there, but im worried about not getting approved and hav8ng another inquiry, do you guys think i have a decent chance of getting there store card?

I think you should avoid getting store cards.

4.  Are there any easy cards to get that youwould reccomend?    My problem 8s that i havent established any of my accounts long enough, i wish i had started this a year ago!

I would suggest that after you've given it a rest for awhile, you apply for an Amex  Blue Cash Everyday card as your next card: (a) it's a good card, (b) it's not that hard to get, (c) Amex is as friendly as anyone to softpull CLI applications

thankyou so much for reading this.  By the way i was not pre approved for discover, citi, or any of the big companies or mission lane, indigo etc.

Yeah you need to stop applying for a good long while.

Re: I need guidance on what to do!!!

There's some good advice here.

Obviously, the less you do right now, the better.

I would add that your approach to doing pre-approvals is smart, since it does no harm.

I would check with both Amex and Apple since they both do pre-approvals.

If you could get Amex BCE or the Apple card (but don't go for Apple if you don't use an iPhone) you could use one of those as a daily card.

The odds are low that you'd get them though.

Re: I need guidance on what to do!!!

Hi there Smiley Happy. I just wanted to say after reading your message that I agree with @JoeRockhead and feel his advice is truthfully the best advice for you with your file where it is now. Especially practicing AZEO and trying to grow all of your current limits when they are eligible for increases. If you do this and hold off on trying to get more new accounts I feel it will benefit you greatly in the long run and then you will qualify for great offers with nice bonuses when you decide to finally take a new card again Smiley Happy. No matter what you decide to do I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a wonderful day Smiley Happy

Re: I need guidance on what to do!!!

Thankyou so much for your advice and im going to do just that.  However, since posting this i actually got some bad news healthwise and decided to apply for care credit.  I did the pre approval and asked for 4,000 and they actually approved me for 4,400.  Straange aabout the extra 400, i guess they felt i could handle it.... awesome.  Thats one card i will need to use besides garden8ng as i have a medical proceedure coming up.  Im. Definetly done and will try to prequalify for a higher capital one or amex etc.  after about a year.  Im going to follow this advice now and leave my credit alone.i have 3 hard inquiries on experian, 3 on equifax and 4 on transunion.  Dont want to push my luck. Im happy to be blessed with what i have now.  Thankyou so much for reaponding!
