I want to cancel all but one of my AMEX's - will that blacklist if I do it all at once?

I have 4 revolvers and a platinum charge. I actually want to cancel ALL, but my Every Day is less than a year old.

Reasons being is I haven't been able to get a CLI on any of the cards in years and want to rid myself of toy limits with a fee. I just want to make sure my Every Day wont be canceled if they see this as a bad thing and take AA?

The Platinum charge card has no option to product change to a no annual fee card, but do any of your other cards?

Other Internet forums might consider what I suggested to be as blasphemy since it will preclude your getting sign up bonuses on the cards that you product change to.

However, in your position I would prioritize building the relationship over sign up bonuses.

I was going to say don't cancel because you can't get a CLI, but if you are paying AFs, I wouldn't keep them open either.

You can call and tell them your dilemma and see if they will waive the AFs and tell them you will cancel if they won't. Of course its not a bluff, because its your real intent.

Its not going to blacklist you, hopefully you have enough cards open for a while or plan to keep a long while so this won't hurt your AAoA when they fall off in about 10 years. Usually not a problem. That's 10 years down the road.

I'm not sure if Amex combines limits. If they did, you would be able to increase your one card's CL while closing the others. I don't see them closing your remaining open account because you closed the others, if that's what you end up doing.

Good luck.

They want to close for no growth. A PC won't change OP situation.

lol, how can they take AA if you close everything?Smiley Wink

Listen, Amex doesnt lose sleep taking away our benefits or lending options/ bt offers that could help us so why lose sleep over closing cards you dont want. You arent burning them ( i.e owe them money) so i  believe youll be ok in future. Wait until you have a year on the one card though as that could affect future subs

OP,

I would call. Explain why you are considering card closure. See what they say?

It should have no bearing on your Everyday card.

Move all the credit lines from the other cards into the Everyday, and then close the them

@AverageJoesCredit  I meant AA now with EVD, and then in the future if I ever for some reason want to apply again.

I have about 20 cards open, so I'm trying to trim it down, and have 15 years of account age. AAoA = 5.5 years. I will call and discuss my options. I have four cards with fees - I want to cancel the Plat and Delta for sure, but I might downgrade my EVD and Hilton to the no fee cards. But before I cancel Delta, I'm gonna move as much as I can over to my Every Day. Thanks all!

Keep in mind that Delta miles don't expire, and Amex introduced the no-AF Delta Blue not that long ago. So you're not forced to pay an AF there.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

@wasCB14 excellent point! Maybe I'll just move limits over and downgrade all, but cancel the PLAT.
