Years ago, had a Chase Elite card. Closed it when I got tired of having one card with a low CL, AND annual fee. I have since opened a Chase Checking account, and that CC acount shows in the portal. is it possible to request it be re-opened as whatever the equivilent product (Freedom) is?
Do banks do anything like that?

You are not going to be able to re-open it. You will need to app for the freedom card that you want.
Years ago, no.
It's possible with a few of lenders to reopen an account shortly after closing, and Amex has reinstated defaulted accounts in exchange for payment (😐), but you won't be able to reopen Chase account
If you want freedom, it will be a whole new application.
While you lose the account age when it falls off your report, you can instead get a nice sub for a freedom product, which will with an ideal profile not give you a low limit product like your elite was
You have about 30 days to reactivate a Chase credit card account. I experienced this when I closed my old Hyatt card thinking I could app the new Hyatt card for the SUB. There was some sort of problem, I think waiting longer than I expected so I panicked and pivoted back to re-open the old Hyatt account and just PC to New Hyatt like they suggested I should do. That excitement was all within 30 days.
