Most of the above recommendations, I am fine with.

It is important to note that Golden1 gets 3% on gas, groceries and many Dining situations. Fast food may be excluded. As a potential daily driver this has to be in the running.

Re: Is it time to thin the herd?

Yeah I can't think of a single reason anyone would pick the Venture over the QS.

I didn't recommend keeping the Golden1 because it wasn't one of the cards that you said you were using.  If it gets 3% on groceries, you should use it often!

Re: Is it time to thin the herd?

OP was only recently approved for Golden1, which may lead to not much use yet.

Re: Is it time to thin the herd?

I am no wizard myself. But I'd combine the QS cards IF possible to do. Close Apple card its worthless really compared to most of your other cards. I'd actually roll the dice and call Lowes CC services and ask for a CLI increase its a sp so what the hell right? I made one call earlier this month to Lowes CC services and went from 1200-17k so that makes it worth my while in keeping a card personally. But then again i shop more at Lowes then HD.

Another note - The OP doesn't go into detail but with your BOFA CR card if you dont have a savings account it may be worth the $100 to open one so you can get an additional 10% customer bonus by rolling the CR into that savings account. Just IMO. I opened a savings with them for $100 took it to $50 and made a $5 reaccurring DD to pay the $5 monthly fee.

Re: Is it time to thin the herd?

Yes, I was just recently approved for the Golden 1 card and it sounds like a keeper!  9.79% and nice rewards to go along with it.

As far as banking, I use Golden 1 and they have been great so no plans on switching to BofA.

Yeah, the Apple card is essentially worthless, so perhaps I will roll that limit into my Uber card which I use frequently.

I am unsure why but everytime I click on the luv button from Lowes, I get denied.  Do you think an actual call would be worth it?

I think I must be sick.  I keep applying for cards I don't need and now have way too many.  In the past week, I was approved for a Target ($2k) and Golden 1 Platinum Visa ($10k).  Should I close some of these cards?  Here is my "portfolio":

1. Captal One Venture: $30k - UPGRADE TO THE QS AND COMBINE ALL LIMITS

2. Capital One QS: $6500

3. Capital One QS: $15k

4. Bofa Cash Rewards: $11k

5. Bofa Merrill Lynch: $20k

6. Uber: $4400

7. Barclay Apple: $3,700 - CLOSE

8. Barclay Ring: $10k

9. Marvel: $10k

10. Blue Nile: $9k

11. Golden 1 Visa: $10k

12. Target: $2k

13. Discover: $15k

14. Blispay: $5k

15. Amazon store card: $10k

16. Lowes: $737 (really?)

The ones that I use on a daily/weekly basis are Discover (due to double cash back), Uber (4% on eating out) and Bofa Cash Rewards (gas and supermarket).  Which cards would you close and why?  Or, would you just sock drawer most of them and keep them open?  Thanks guys!

Those are my recommendation. Combine all CapitalOne to the oldest card for one big limit and close the Barclay Apple. I've been thinning out my cards too as I have a hard time handling all of my accounts and I fear CLD that's been happening lately due to low usage of limits.

As long as they are PIF, you are immune to CLDs.  I wish I had my 34 old JCP card on my CR even if it had a $200 CL.  All non-AF cards help you ven if their CL is $1.

We all grow fat over the year and we need to trim the fat every year.  Or we'll get too fat, get heart attach and get busted.....

Start to trim the fat today....

That's not always true, as some of us have seen with Cap One.  PIF and occassional use wasn't enough to maintain higher CLs.    And there are just as good arguments for closing unused cards as there are for keeping lots and lots of them!
