Ask me anything you like and i'll respond as honestly as I can.
Of course you can ask but it's all about presentation.
Of course, decorum is everything. I apologise if I came off adversary in my initial post to this thread, I was merely inquiring as to the spending habits that would necessitate a larger increase. Of course some may want a large credit line for unforseen events. Good luck with your endeavours.
All is good. Mainly people seek credit limit increases to pad their overall credit limits to help their total utilization as it's such a big factor in Fico scoring.
Good for you Pizza on declining 400 bucks more is small change with your Cap1 limits, you will get more and Irish and you need more for Vegas

Really?!
I expected the usual $1-3k increase.
Usage is average, and I've got plenty of credit with them and everyone else so I could turn it down! There have been documented cases where if you're getting close to a CLI on your card and try for it like I did, it'll give you a small one. But if you wait it out another month or two, then you get your true increase then, which is better.
I don't understand. 8% isn't a true increase?
She didn't say it wasn't a true increase. She said that's not what she's looking for right now and expects Cap One, as they have for others, to offer a bigger one next time because she declined this one. Why is that a big deal?
I've never seen all these other cases where turning down CLIs lead to larger CLIs nor have I ever seen any evidense that accepting the lower CLI default meant that you wouldn't get a much higher one next time around. I'm sure there likely are exceptions to every rule, but in the vast majority of cases refusing CLIs has never been proven in any way to be a valid strategy for getting CLIs.

Count me as another one who never heard of this "strategy" either but whatever works....if you just show moderate to high usage, pay it off responsibly and be patient, you will get CLIs sooner or later. No need for any strategies at all really.

I think the 'strategy' is that waiting a few weeks allows a little more time for the account to age, time for inquiries to age past 1 year or age off completely, and for many of us here the 'little' things can make a difference between a modest CLI and more generous one. There's no real trick to it, and there's anecdotal evidence (folks on here giving feedback) that many times it is actually effective.

Seen probably about 4 examples of this on the Venture Card turning down 1 or 2 k and then getting 3k a month or so later. Would linkie, but would require searching
