I guess this is something I should have thought about a bit more.
If I want to apply for a new credit card via the internet (say...Chase Sapphire or QS) could I put an address other than my home address in? Would they know the difference? Or will it be denied for different addresses being used on the account?
On my Sallie Mae, they sent the card home (which is what I requested), then I changed the address on their system and as far as I can tell it went through just fine. Not that it matters since I signed up for electronic statements. Only really mattered when receiving the card.
Basically...I'm asking because in a week I'll be back up at college (5hrs away from home...). If they send anything I would want it sent to my college/school address for obvious reasons. If it gets sent home...there's a chance that I wouldn't actually have it in my posession for months...kinda defeats the purpose (partially).
Creditors report your credit history based on the address you have on file with them. At this point, your credit history may now be "tied' to different addresses, depending on what your other tradelines report under.
When you app for new accounts, the creditor will pull your credit history based on the address which you provided on app. Let's say, you use a completely new address that no other tradeline is currently reporting under, then that creditor will have at least some sort of issue locating your correct history, and you may need to further follow up to verify your identity in that case.
But, if you already have your other tradelines reporting under a certain address, using that certain address shouldn't be an issue since it would be tied/linked to some or all of your existing tradelines.
I use a PO Box and of course always have to use a street address whenever I apply. I always change my address when I set up my online acct. I've received cards at both addresses. Recently on an approved Visa my house number was incorrect on the application. The card was sent to the wrong address and incorrect street number now shows on all of my CRs.
Okay, so I just applied for a PayPal Debit Mastercard and was denied because my college address could not be verified and such. Bummer!
So, I decided to set up mail forwarding thru the USPS.com website. That way everything will be addressed to my home address, but will be sent/forwarded on to my college address. I am hoping this will actually work...don't see why it wouldn't. That way they can verify my credit report and such thru my home address, and hopefully get approved.
