Both American Express and Chase will issue credit cards for Marriott in the future. Starting in 2018, Marriott will introduce new co-branded credit card products:
For the time being, both issuers will retain their existing portfolios and continue to offer their current products, and more details on the above cards will be revealed in 2018.

This was probably the best outcome. Interesting that Amex will issue the "super premium" product. I wonder if the Ritz card will become an Amex once the integration is complete? but good to know my SPG Amex will not be axed or PC'd anytime soon. I wonder what the new offerings will be or offer?
This makes me extremely happy I have to say to a point. It will allow people that are above 5/24 with Chase to get a Marriott card and for churners allows more products to apply for. Only real question I have is what's gonna happen to the SPG cards. Hard to tell at this point whether they'll just simply get rid of them when the time comes or do a PC but considering AMEX is only doing a super premium consumer card probably throws that out of the equation unless the cardholder is willing to take an upgrade/increased AF; with the Business SPG I assume unless they're gonna do another super-premium like the biz plat they'll just PC those over easily enough. A win-win all around.
Very good new on the surface so far! Thanks for the post.. Ya will be curious what will happen to the Ritz card as that is about as premium as marriott/ritz gets.
Be interesting what happens to the Ritz card and then in-turn on Amex side what happens to the SPG cards are those "premium" enough? Hmm
Marriott decided to keep a co-brand card because Chenault will be gone by the spring.
Who will want to get a top-line Marriott and Hilton cards if you already get AmEx Platinum??
I do get value out of my Ritz Carlton card, but the AmEx Marriott/Ritz has to offer something that is different from the future Hilton cards. I'll only want to get the welcome bonus from either hotel cards. Not keepers.

My understanding of the terms is:
Premium = ~$100 AF (the fate of SPG, Marriott)
Super Premium = ~$500 AF (the fate of R-C)
Mass consumer = No AF
So unless JPM operates R-C as a legacy card, or people PC to a premium or mass consumer product, I'd guess R-C accounts would be sold to Amex.

Giggity!
I really hope it's a very high AF card with Platinum Elite status, similar to the high end Hilton card coming out from Amex. Can't wait to find out when I'm leaving the garden! For the record, I'll be the first to sign up for a super high-end Marriott card and keep my Amex Platinum. SPG status is one of the perks but not the only perk, so there would be no reason for me to ditch it.

Well, **bleep**, I didn't think about that. Wondering if they'll just simply switch portfolios with a little money thrown in depending on the worth of the RC customers and SPG customers.
My guess is they will be switching some customers between cards and doing some shuffling such a RC goes to Amex and Amex gives Chase whatever and who knows about business cards whether they stay at current lenders each?
I was going to apply for the Ritz again as well as cancelled the card a month or so ago but wanted the bonus again.. hmmmm.. choices
. Card is over 2 years old so eligible again
