I called them and spoke to the manager. He gave me the address where the pizza was delivered. He said they have had a problem with these same people getting credit card info before. The road it was delivered to is near my new house, but according to the online PVA, that address does not exist. The manager called the owner, then called me back and told me that the owner would take care of it all when he came in tomorrow. Said he would get the information to the police and they would call me. I told him that I had given my card info to one of his employees over the phone in July and he may want to check that out. He said he would.

I know some of you are thinking that someone may have taken my info from a mailbox or something, but I can't imagine that any credit card info would ever be in my mailbox, as I get online statements for everything. To have the full numbers capable of actually running a charge through, you would have to have access to the card or the information from the card. Either way, I am buying a  locking mailbox. That was on the original list of things to do at the new house but I didn't like any of the mailboxes that Lowe's had so I skipped it.

My GF always orders pizza from a local place using CC over phone. She always uses her PNC card (low limit card in the SD) and has had 3 replacement cards issued due to fraud, lol. Never will I give my CC over the phone but, I'm the guy that has to drive to the atm and get cash just to have Pizza delivered.  Don't scumbags suck?

It's just my luck. The one time I order pizza from this place and the one time I give out my info, some jerk who works there would use their powers for evil. I guess it really is not that big of a deal. I'm sure Discover will have my back if the pizza place does not return my money. I would be more ticked off if I had used a debit card and the money was actually taken from my account. This is why I use credit cards for everything. Scumbags do suck. I left law enforcement to work in a law office. My life has been full of scumbags, but they typically don't use my credit cards! lol

I'm glad you called though. Like I said before, I work in a financial institution and we always encourage our customers to try to contact the place first and then file a dispute.

Especially because the manager was able to shed some light on the fact that these people have done it before and will now be filing a police report. Aside from the fact you will definitely get your money back, either from the pizza place or from Discover, it is good that it was able to get straightened out somewhat!

Not sure where you work but that is absolutely not necessary to dispute a credit card charge.  You have zero liability and zero obligation to try to get the charges reversed if you didn't make them.  Most of the time credit card companies could care less who actually made the charges as its a write off for them. I can also assure you that the police almost never investigate credit card fraud.  CC fraud happens thousands of times per day and neither CC companies nor the police have the resources to investigate them.  Using the dispute process is by far the optimal avenue to use when you have fraud on your card.  While it may be disconcerting to have it occur you have to expect it to happen if you use credit cards but in the end it's not a huge deal as you have the protection of zero liability.  It's a pain to have cards cancelled etc but far better than alternatives

If I had a CC from a 'financial institution' that told me to try to get charges reversed etc I would tell them to pound sand and if they refused to cover the charges then I would cancel the card and contact the CFPB

I doubt a worker would steal credit card info and then charge over $90 where they work. Just saying. If it's an internal scheme then it's probably the owner. It could just be a wrong hit key on the computer.

Whew, I was getting worried it was taking too long for someone to post this common sense reply.  Spot on.

OP just request the issuer to cancel the current card and issue a new card ASAP.

Will do! Luckily I just got my shiny new Citi DC that will get 2% so I can move my auto bills to that card while I am waiting on the new Discover to come in the mail.

Re: My 1,000th post is to talk about fraud

We don't refuse to cover the charges, we give them a provisional credit until our fraud department investigates.

I understand the zero liability and it's not like we will not process the fraud paperwork without them contacting the original place, but we'd like for them to try and contact them first.

Doesn't the OP need to report this to the CCC?  It is all good the pizza company owner is going to straiten this charge.  However, someone has their credit card info now.  Next time it might be for a lot more than pizza.  They need a new card.

Will do as soon as the charge posts. I think I can't report it until after it has come out of pending status and actually posted, correct?

Yup, cant dispute it till it actually posts. I had both my Discover card and Discover Debit card compromised last week, pretty sure it was an inside bank job, never once had I used the debit card. I would dispute it and request new account number to be issued.
