Hi everyone,
I know there are tons of threads on this topic, but I think my case is a little bit unique.
Originally, I'm from Germany and came to the States a few years back. I didn't have any credit in this country until last November when I opened a Capital One Secured Card account to start building credit. After getting my green card so that I could officially work in the States, I got a great job with substantial income and since I've been using the Secured card for ~10 months, I'm looking into taking the next step in. As many people mentioned, Capital One doesn't graduate its Secured cards although I just got off the phone with a rep who ensured me they are still doing that... Anyhow, my credit score is 730, I'm making north of 90k and would like a unsecured card with a decent credit line.
I'm also traveling to Germany at least twice a year so any travel rewards/no foreign fees would be ideal, if that's realistic for my case.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for cards, and whether I should wait to apply after the anniversary of my secured card.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it
Is that 730 score is myfico score?
with that score you will have no problem apply for unsecured credit card. In my opinion its best to apply unsecured card from your bank, what bank to you have?
Thanks for the response. The 730 is the TransUnion score that comes with my Capital One Secured Card. At this point, I only have a checking/savings accout with Ally and a checking accout with Sacramento Credit Union, a very small local CU...
I'll look into the Amex Blue - also I wouldn't have a problem starting an additional checking account with a bank if that helps me to get a solid card...
Eric19k, did your girlfriend have her credit cards for a long time? I think my biggest issue is that I'm still below that one year, that's why I asked about waiting it out. I already have a hard inquiry from a recently declined application for the Chase Freedom card, I only want to apply for a card if I have a chance of being approved.

CAP1 is a FAKO score= Fake
My advice is first pull all scores (myFico)
Next post all 3 scores with cards wanted....including no FTF
With 10 months of history and your income I think you have a good shot at a few cards but w/o a score from each CB....well it's kind of like throwing darts Lol
Why is the info needed
Discover is known to pull EQ, TU
Amex EX
Cap1 EX EQ TU all 3
Citi EX
Barclay TU
Another question did you have CC in Germany? Some lenders have a program to get you CC here...such as Amex?
I'll aslo have this moved to the CC forum for better exposer
Good luck and welcome to the forum
Thank you very much for your response myjourney - as recommended, I pulled the myFICO scores and I have a 715 Equifax; 738 TU and 722 Experian.
With my 10 month history and current income, what are my options for unsecured cards? It looks like you would recommend a Barclay card since my TU currently looks the best?
Also, I did have a Mastercard in Germany for about 3 years with my local bank - I'll check in with them to see what my options are.

With those scores. You can get what you want. Discover like newbies. But it does not work good in Deutschland. But. Barclays. Amex is goid. Bank of America. Well boa will want 1 year. You tried freedom. But give citi simplicity try. It won't be hard for you.

Thanks, I'll look into the Citi Simplicity card. Many people have told me that shouldn't be a problem to get a card but I still find it very difficult. Should I just keep applying to banks until one of them accept me? Are there any suggestions for a card without foreign transaction fees?
Also, what line of credit can I expect?
