I'm in a semi similar bucket:
- Opened a Chase Slate 1yr ago with a $500 SL, my scores weren't great since I was building but it got my in the door
- Charged no more than $200-300 and PIF as soon as things posted or on the due date - just to show that I could use more if it was there. I took a small hit (3-4 pts) but nothing major.
- After a year I figured, "What gives? I can't do anything with $500 and never received an auto CLI". Took the hardpull and got $5K instantly and converted it to a Freedom Unlimited. The only bummer is that the rep asked me how much I wanted and I was conservative and said $5 and got it no questions asked - I feel like I left money on the table, ugh
From what I've read on here Chase is super stingy with auto-CLI's. I wonder if a co-branded card could have a different auto CLI policy? My Slate was a builder card so I think that may have received similar auto treatment. I applied for a CSR since I'm an AU on an account and was denied for some bogus reasons Chase's 2/30 rule (even though 1 of those 2 were on an existing product in good standing) and the fact that my college checking account flipped to a normal account type and I spaced the $12 fee a few times.
My Amazon card is still at $500. It doesn't matter if I charge $1, $100, $499 or nothing. I pay before statement cuts, I pay after, I pay off several times and keep charging, and still no auto CLI. I won't be requesting a CLI anytime soon because after I got the FU a couple of months ago, I also got approved for 4 more cards. 2 with PenFed and 2 with US Bank. I did that because I'm way over 5/24 and my BK is supposed to drop in another 3 years anyway. I feel like my chances of getting a new Chase card with a high SL without having to beg on recon will improve after the BK falls off. Who knows, by then I may not even want my own Chase cards anymore (I already have them as AU with my wife).
My FU has the same $500 limit and I've done the same as the Amazon card, but I've only had it for 3 months, so I'm not expecting any auto CLIs either.
I've talked to a couple of Chase employees, and I don't know if they're right or not, but they both said that as long as the BK is present, I'll be denied cards and CLIs automatically by their system. I'm going to have to call and speak with an analyst and request a review, and hope they overturn the declines.
For now, I'm done with Chase till BK drops, and I'm just building my profile by increasing my current lines and letting those accounts age. The 2 Chase cards are my only $500 CCs. The next closest card is at $5k and highest at $41k.
My 2 Chase cards won't be seeing much action from me anymore. I added my daughter as AU to both, and she takes a card whenever she goes out with friends. It works out because I don't have to worry much with a $500 CL.
In your case, are you also rebuilding from a BK? If so, did you burn Chase? How long ago? Or did you just have a bad period financially with lates on your reports?
