Barclays just partnered with aarp to issue two new cards. The Essentials card might be of interest to folks:
$100 SUB after $500 spend on 3 months
3% cash back on drugstore
2% cash back on medical
1% the rest
you do not need to be an aarp member to sign up!
I still miss my RING card it took almost 2 years to finally land.
What's another HP at this point in a try for AARP. No doubt will require an interrogation with their U/W and scolding about current cards acquired but been through it before. SL also would no doubt be mediocre at best if even approved. They were my very first prime card approval at $5K back when they had a online prequal.
If there is a brightside in my case it is that i do have excellent history, no, let's say acceptable history with 2 Barclaycards and my lines was never slashed like so many others. Of course during that cost cutting measure of theirs i did go proactive and closed the RING card in advance when they were nailing cardholders left & right.
Thanks for the official release info. We knew that AARP was leaving Chase for Barclays.
I personally would love to PC to this card now.
This is very good to know as I am an AARP member and multiple Barclays card account member.
I do wish for Barclays to not do a HP on current members - everytime I ask for CLI or a new card, a HP is incurred.
Thanks for the link @Anonymous - the 3% cash back on Gas and Drug Store purchases (excluding Target and Walmart) has gotten me more interested as gas prices are so high....
Thanks for sharing card categories. I have an allergy to Barclays, we briefly courted with Uber, but I had to dump his fickle ways.
As a holder of the Chase AARP with 3% gas & restaurants I dont see anything that would make me want to get this card. I dont spend enough at drug stores to justify the 3% at drugstores and any 2% card will take care of the medical expenses. Only reason I keep the Chase AARP is the 3% gas but if it moves to barclays which its not supposed to do according to Chase I would get a 3rd BoA Cash Rewards for the 3% gas and nix it.
@gdale6 Do you have the Visa AARP ?
They are saying your Visa is changing to Barclay's ?
This is the message on the Barclay's web application page:

Yes I have the Chase AARP Visa and Chase says they will not be sending my account to Barclays so it remains to be seen whether or not it really happens. Im not interested in Barclays, had 2 Sallie Mae MCs and they devalued those, they end up devaluing everything they issue and cannot be trusted. I finally terminated by entire relationship with Barclays including deposit accounts. I have no intention of restarting it and if Chase sends my account to them it will immediately be closed.
Adding: There are several other members who have called Chase and gotten the same info that their accounts will not be sent to Barclays. I will give data points on my card: I never carry a balance on it and pay the day after statement cuts since Chase reports accounts when they are paid to 0 at anytime. In case it does transfer I did move most of the CL over to my Freedom card when the announcment first came out about the switch.
Chase is loosing AARP visa accounts they are going over to Barclays. Barclay's has launch 2 new co branded mastercards AArP. First card is a cash back card you earn 3% back on Gas and Drug stores and 2% on medical bills such as doctors denists and other medical expenses and 1% all other charges. The Second is travel card 3% on travel air lines hotels and car rentals. What do you guys think of thes 2 mew credit cards by Barclays.
