Hey! New member here...just had a few questions.
1. I am applying for a chase credit card (freedom/freedom unlimited/flex/amazon..not sure which yet). I opened a checking account with chase about 1 month ago and transferred a large amount of money to it (ten thousand dollars) from my fintech. For the heck of it, I also opened a savings account with chase a few weeks ago and added a thousand dollars......My question is will this help me get approved? Improve chances? Maybe mean a higher credit limit?
2. Will the chase online application system see that I have these accounts with large amount of money parked and factor that into its decision algorith or what not? Or will the system only see and care about my current credit score/credit report?
3. Should I apply at the branch with a banker?(heard banker adds human touch and can call recon for you if necessary as well as see your relationship with chase..true?) Or apply online while logged into my account? If I apply while logged out, would the system end up not seeing my accounts with chase..or will it still see them under my SSN?
4. I had a chase card 6 years ago which I had made perfect on-time payments (about 12 months) on but due to some family problems, I missed 2 payments (so report shows 30 days late then 60 days late), BUT I immediately went in and paid the whole balance 100% in full and my credit report shows a green checkmark for it after those 2 missed. Chase closed the account however as it had gone over limit / due to the 2 missed payments......Since I immediately paid the whole balance in full (no charge off or anything) and since it was 6 years ago, do you think Chase would allow me to open a card with them now? Any advice/similar stories from others would help.
5. I have only 2 credit card accounts open right now and they are both 7.5 years old in good standing....however, they have only limits of 1000 and 500 (amex and citi)....Would this hurt me when applying for the chase card? (I closed many accounts many years ago when I had the family issues and generally stayed clear of credit besides these 2 cards with total 1500 limit...now I feel I am more mature and can handle credit cards etc etc
I don't have chase, but I have heard they have a long memory. Still, if you paid in full, they might not hold it against you.
As far as having a banking relationship, you might get more from that In person.
Having the two open accounts in good standing should help.
Have you tried asking for a limit increase on either card? I've found amex to be good at granting increases, if they've turned you down, see what their reasons were.
Chase's version of a large deposit relationship is $10 million for a JP Morgan Private Bank relationship which gives access to a JP Morgan Reserve credit card. From my experience, even a Chase Private Client relationship isn't enough to move the needle for credit card approvals. Checking and Savings accounts could help in that you now have a good reason to go into a branch to ask if you have any offers available for credit cards. Sometimes, there will be branch-only offers that are not available online.
I don't believe the computer is going to recognize or factor your deposits at all. Your history and scores are what will be considered the most. You might have the best shot by applying in branch.
Those new DDAs won't help with getting approved but going into your local Branch and applying might...
Why are the CL on both of your 7 year old cards still so low? Have you ever tried for a CLI?

1. I personally have not noticed Chase really caring whether you have deposit accounts or not... unless you're in their 'private client' neighborhood.
2. The system will care about everything in your application, everything in your credit reports, and your internal credit history with them, and nothing else.
3. Some folks have gotten better results by applying at a branch.
4. Chase might hold it against you.
5. The low limits on your current cards would not bother them if you were applying for the Freedom cards or the Amazon Prime card.
In view of your past history with Chase, my advice would be to see if you have any preapprovals. You can go to the "Just for You" section on the website menu, or you can go into a branch.

FWIW, this really should have been listed as 1! It's going to have a much bigger impact on decision making than a $10K deposit (which as others correctly point out, is by no means "large" to chase)
What's so special about chase, anyway? You might do better with a bank you have no bad history with. Since you're not sure which card you want, what features do you want in a card?

Agree, depending on spend and what one is looking for,
many issuers have cards with similar or better rewards.
No law against not having a "Chase" or "Amex", I have neither

I'm sure that's state specific!
