Hello all! I'm looking for some advice on how to best proceed with AmEx. I've had the Delta Gold card since 9/2020, which I just upgraded to Platinum this month for the extra benefits and a miles bonus. The card started at $1k for the SL, but I have not been able to get a CLI on it yet.
In August, I applied for the Amazon Business Prime card and was instantly approved for $3k. I wasn't expecting an approval, so it was a pleasant surprise. The 61 day mark is coming up at the beginning of October.
AmEx has been denying me the Delta CLI for my Experian FICO being too low (recently it was 666), having negative items, and utilization on other cards. I paid down two cards with high balances reporting this month, so I am hoping my Experian FICO will go up some once those report as paid off. The highest my score has been in the past year is 682, but I will still getting declined for a CLI with that score.
Anyway, I am wondering what I should ask them for first once my score gets updated with them at the end of September. I want a CLI on both of my cards, and I am also interested in applying for either the Gold charge or the Hilton Surpass card (want some hotel points). I'm thinking I will apply for the Amazon card 61 day 3X CLI first. Then I can do the other two things afterward. I am also wondering if they maybe more generous on the Delta card after it hits one year on 9/22. I have been doing a decent amount of spend and always paying in full since I opened the two cards, so I am surprised they have still been stingy with giving me even a modest CLI.
I am also unsure if it will be easier to obtain the Hilton card or the Gold charge. Both would be keeper cards for me in the long run, but I am unsure which one to apply for now. I have Delta miles to cover a flight for a trip, but I'm looking to cover a hotel as well with some points.
Honestly, they probably won't increase the 1k limit until your report is clean.
You mentioned that you want a CLI on both of your Amex cards, please be aware that that the policy is one CLI every 6 months per account not per card like every other lender does. That means if you get a CLI on your Amazon card you will not be eligible for a CLI on the Delta card for 6 months and vis versa.
You can also not transfer limits from a business card to a personal card (they do allow personal to business card limit transfers).
So pick the card you want to request a CLI for carefully

That's another factor, certainly. What if they are willing to give me the 3X CLI on the business card, and I miss that opportunity by asking for the personal card CLI? I definitely am going to ask for the business card CLI first. Then I will apply for the new card after that.
