Odds of NFCU CC Approval

I am a new member of NFCU and would like to app for a CC with them. The board says they are very forgiving of rebuilds and new credit BUT I have no FICO score. Do you guys think they will approve me, or should I wait?

Datapoints:

FAKOs: 644 TU / 637 EQ / 650 EX

AAoA:   2 months

Util %:    26% (Credit1 hasn't posted yet)

INQ:       3 TU/ 3 EQ / 6 EX

Baddies: 0

CC Limits: Express $250 / Cap1 $400 / Credit1 $300

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Odds of NFCU CC Approval

Do you happen to know your real FICO scores?

What’s your oldest account age?

Re: Odds of NFCU CC Approval

Reading is fundamental (lol). Apologies, I see that now.

My dad was a cash only man with no score. I added him as an authorized user on my BoA Cash Rewards card which had an age of 12 years, at the time. That generated a score for him. But with the authorized user account removed from the equation, he looked completely new to credit. He was too new for unsecured cards from Discover and Chase. We decided to give Navy a go.

Navy approved him for a Cash Rewards card at $5900 with no other credit history than my authorized user account.

I think it would be worth it to try as it is only likely to be one inquiry which may sting in the interim but the sting is only temporary. I’m not sure if you’re already a member. If not, they’ll HP you for membership and then HP you for a card.

I think if you did apply and were denied for an unsecured product, you could probably ask to be reconsidered for their secured card.

I hope this is helpful but I expect more people will provide better feedback shortly.

No problem lol it happens to the best of us...

Again thanks for the reply...I am a member now (amazingly they did not do a HP for membersip) I am HP shy but I think I will give it a go.

Re: Odds of NFCU CC Approval

If those are your FAKO's, your real scores may be a smidge higher and could potentially get you an approval. You can try CCT, Credit Check Total for $1 and that would give you a better idea.

@Fr3sh welcome to the myFico community, we are so glad you joined us! Congrats on the new membership at NFCU as well!

Navy has a variety of credit card products for a bunch of different stages and most of us will agree that it doesn't matter what product they approve you for or what that starting limit may be, once you're in...your're in. That having been said, they will base a decision on scores, income and  DTI (debt to income). IMHO, I wouldn't be concerned about the average age of accounts, utilization or inquiries as those don't play into the decision as much at NFCU as they may elsewhere.

If you decide to give it a go, IMHO I would suggest the CashRewards or GoRewards cards. If you are interested in getting some current info on Navy, here's a link to our very active thread which is huge, but even if you go back through a few dozen of the current pages, you'll get a feel for what's happening on an almost daily basis. It's a great place to post questions too as there is usually a very quick answer there. Be sure to subscribe to that thread if you find it interesting, and you'll get email alerts when there are new posts.

Please update us here or on the thread above and let us know what you decide to do and the outcome. Congrats on getting your current cards in place and you are certainly on your way to a great credit profile! My fingers are crossed for your success with your first Navy card!!

P.S. To answer your question lol, I think your chances are good!

Re: Odds of NFCU CC Approval

They don’t do a HP to join, anymore. I was nervous to join since my scores had dropped from mid-600s because of a few balances but I was still able to join and get a card. I think you might be fine!
