In addition to developing a credit profile for myself, I've also been helping my SO fix his. He was sub-600 mainly due to a medical collection and no credit card history. In September he got approved for BOA's 99/500 card. His medical collection dropped off last month and his score shot up to 715. And in today's mail he received 2 preapprovals! One from CreditOne (ick) and one from Cap1 (no annual fee Plat. MCD). Even though they are subprime offers, I told him I was a little jealous since I STILL haven't gotten a single preapproval...and I have more credit history than him! :-P
He seemed a little interested in the Cap1 card but I told him he should hold off and apply for a Discover card at some point instead. They approved me after 6 months, so he should be good to go with them soon, too! He likes the cash back he gets from BOA card so I think Discover would be a better fit for him. He's hoping his card gets unsecured/CLI'd a little earlier than the 1 year point since the $500 CL is pretty limiting. Plus it'd be nice if he could pay his tuition with a card.
In the meantime...where are my dang preapprovals??!
Re: your preapprovals ... Are you opted in?
If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone. I also have been helping DH with his credit issues while I fix my own. He's received 2 different Citi offers and one USAA offer. I haven't received anything. I am opted out, though.
I did see a similar post not too long ago with someone who had a similar issue. It was discussed that perhaps the greener file was more attractive to prospective creditors as they are looking for new customers.
As long as you're OPT in they will come with time

And yeah, I am "meh" on citi as well. Nothing of theirs jumps out at me.
