Just wanted to contribute to the fact that you also need a $0 rewards balance as well.
Loved the uncle b reference in your OP lol.
Good luck with your account combo! It is quite fun, combo'd 1 venture and 2 QS a couple months ago into my giant qs card.
Oh yeah and everyone said it too but if you request a limit one week, then wait 2 more weeks you might see a nice difference. I requested once and only got $300. Waitied 3 weeks later and got $3000.
Great catch on the rewards... I didn't think to mention that earlier but before combining accounts you definitely want to cash out your rewards on the card you're closing, if there are any.
I'll just add that it is possible to combine accounts with rewards not being at zero, but you'll forfeit anything that's left on the donor card. Also notable is a few months back they brought back the ability to transfer rewards to a different card so there's really no reason to let anything go. It's a bit 'buggy' for me - I can only transfer rewards in one direction for some reason - but at least it's back online (they had taken the feature down last September).
Even if you don't think about it, though, Capital One does the right thing... before going forward with a combination they even give you one last chance to redeem your rewards from the combination screen itself (see first yellow box at bottom of pic):
Nice catch. Couldn't remember that since I combo'd a while ago. I do remember the yellow messages now that you mention them, and yes, it is quite nice that capital one warns you.

Thanks. Several hours ago I transferred the rewards from my QS1 to my QS VS. I also got the AF credited. Saved $39, now I have to get ahold of Citi and have them lower the amount of the BT from the QS1 account by $39. I don't want a negative balance on the account.
I'm giddy about combining these accounts into one fat account. With a decent CLI before account combo, it'll be my 4th account with at least a 10k limit. I'm stoked!

This is fantastic news!  I'm thrilled to hear everything worked out!  ![]()
(If it's too late for Citi to change the amount on your BT, Capital One is said to be good about refunding credit balances.)

Yes they are really good at it. I had $0.30 credit and they sent me a check within a couple weeks. With Amex I've had < $1 credit on there for a couple months now.

My $29.500 quicksilver says cheers to fat accounts.

Uncle B,
I get the screen now just like the screenshot you attached. I feel like I have reached a milestone in my credit adventure. Tomorrow is the QS VS statement date. I made a significant payment on the account yesterday and cashed in all my cash back rewards to further lower my balance.
Do you (or anyone reading) think I'll get a better CLI offer than the $500 currently offered? I'm holding off on account combination until the CLI. My QS1 isn't eligible for a CLI for a few more months. I suppose it's possible to wait that long.....if I HAD to. (=

That's really tough to say... Capital One can be a bit unpredictable at times when it comes to CLIs.  ![]()
I will say that I've read more than one thread where someone turned down a $500 (or less) CLI and was offered a larger amount just a few weeks later, but there are also some cases where people report trying later only to get the same offer (so far I've not read where anybody reported the CLI offer later on being lower, but I suppose technically it's possible). It seems to be very much YMMV.
My lowest CLI offer from Capital One was on my QS MasterCard back when it was still a QS1... it was $200, and I accepted it (I wasn't on here yet). In this instance had I waited I might have gotten a better offer later, but at the time I was just happy to be getting any CLIs at all so I jumped on it. Also, at the time that $200 actually helped out a bit, so it was, indeed, better than nothing.
Unless the $500 CLI would make a real difference in your day-to-day use of the card, I would likely hold off (at least a few weeks) to see if the offer will increase. Worst-case scenario if you try later on and the offer is still $500, you could still accept it before you merge your accounts.
I know what it's like to watch the calendar waiting for a Capital One CLI... it's a bit like watching paint dry!
@_NERD wrote:I hit the LUV button on the QS VS acct and was approved for a $500 increase. I don't want this small CLI to be the only action on this account for 6 months.
Not sure what you mean. CLI's are based on what your credit profile and income qualify for at time of consideration. The previous CLI isn't directly relevant as you seem to assume. If you want a higher CLI then you need to address whatever concerns CO has with your credit profile. Don't just rely on the passage of time alone. Creditors don't just hand out CLI's in exchange for time.
