I wouldn't worry about QS1 vs Platinum. It's simply a matter of mathematics whether you will earn enough in rewards to justify the fee. But it's not a life-changing amount of money either way. One family dinner. The two should have an identical effect on your credit report. I would speculate (but do not actually know) that you can have longer periods of inactivity with a QS1 without C1 closing the account, since they know they'll make money on the fee. As opposed to the Platinum, where they make money off merchant swipe fee + interest, so a card that is not being used becomes a cost for them rather than a revenue source. I think it'll work out well for you. Good luck!

Once you spend $2600 on the card, you’ve paid the AF and turned it into a positive over the Platinum going forward.
The reason the QS1 gets so much hate isn’t just the AF, it’s because Cap doesn’t like to give PC offers on them so people who start with the Plat usually end up earning cash back with no AF after 6 months by PCing to QS while the QS1 can be stuck there for over a year with no offers throwing away that AF.
They’re both starter cards and tend to be bucketed and everything else otherwise.
never seen a plat go to a QS only QS1,, interesting tell us more...

Well mine sure did but that was 2014. I guess it’s possible they are PCing Plat to QS1 card design with no AF? If so, might as well just call it QS since QS1 is associated with the AF product.
Point is that Plat can get cash back with no AF after 6 months.
yes there are afew things Diff the main being th $39 and the High 26% rate where the QS can be alot lower with better scores.

APR never changes with a PC regardless and I still have 25 and 26% pre-quals for every single Cap card right now including the Savor and Venture.
Platinum PCs give QS benefits with no AF, all other terms of the account stay the same.

I changed my platinum to a QS during the 4th month. My wife chose to upgrade hers to the venture1 on her 4th month.
I had both a Platinum and a QS1 for a couple of years. The Platinum was product change into a QS after a year then a VentureOne last year. The QS1 would not budge. No credit limit increase or product change was available everytime I checked online or on the phone. I got tire of it and combined it with my VentureOne.
