Question About Chase Amazon Visa

I applied for an Amazon Prime Visa and was approved at 17.24% APR. What's confusing is, the message said the "initial credit limit" is $5K, but I "will be able to utilize the full $15.5K limit" once I verify receipt of the card. (It looks like they matched my CL to the CL on my Freedom Unlimited. 🤷) Has anyone heard of the "initial" approval being a lower amount than the "full credit limit?" I've never encountered this before. Thanks!

It's a security measure...it's becoming common and there is nothing to worry about.  The temp limit is only until you receive and activate the card

Oh, ok.. thank you. I'd just never heard of it. I appreciate the info.

I admit I was extremely pleased and surprised at the approval.

It's happened to several of us and reported here.  I started out at $5k and ended up at $29.5k.  As said earlier, it's some sort of security measure.

Re: Question About Chase Amazon Visa

This is normal with the Amazon card, because unlike other Chase cards, it can be used immediately in your Amazon account upon approval.  Other Chase cards don't do this, since there's no way to get the info (account/expiration/CVV) until the card arrives in the mail.

They give a temporary limit of $5000 (or the actual limit if it's lower) until you receive and activate the card.  Like others have said, it's a security measure.

Re: Question About Chase Amazon Visa

Even my AMEX business prime card did this, my initial limit was only $2,500 but my full limit is 13k. I couldn't access it all until I got my card in the mail.

This makes sense.  Sounds like folks have had some notable issues involving fraud.  Chase wants to mitigate any risks.

Credit is a lot like a Reputation....It takes 20 years to build it and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, and you will do things differently.
