Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

Hi there , so I'm making my first payment on my NFCU Amex card from an external bank account. My due date is today and it's only for $5.00. I've connected my external bank account to NFCU and I made the transfer. I didn't receive any confirmation email , nothing shows on the app that a transfer was initiated , or that a payment was made etc. I understand they haven't received the payment yet but still makes me nervous that you can't even get confirmation that you did attempt to make the transfer.

I was told it will take up to 3 business days for it to reflect on the account that I made the payment. My question is - since my bill was due today and it falls on a Sunday , I went and made the payment about two hours ago. But since it won't reflect until Tuesday or Wednesday will that be considered late? And I should have intiated the transfer earlier on last week? Or is there any chance that it won't be late but there internal system will pick up and log the fact that the payment wasn't made and went through on the day it was due ?

im going to be apping for my second card with NFCU soon and just don't want any issues that might hold me back from getting a good SL on the second card. I'm more worried about there internal system flagging it.

Any help on how the process works is much appreciated !

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

Was this push or pull?

In other words, did you use the NFCU portal to pull the payment from external account?

or

Did you push payment from external account into NFCU account?

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

Just to clarify, are you saying that a statement already generated with the $5 which is due today, or you made a charge of $5 past the statement cycle and you're needing to pay that today on your due date?

If a statement generated with $5 due today, yes it's late (at least on their internal side). Keep in mind that if you just set up the external payment method today, you're not giving yourself enough breathing room for the execution and processing of the payment from said external account, which can take up to 3 business days to post, as nothing would post on a weekend.

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

If you can going forward, try to make your payment at least a couple of days ahead of time. It'll give you a little room if another problem arises.

Navy is probably gonna consider that late. Now if you had paid it from your Navy checking or savings I believe it would have been OK.

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

Statement cut and my due date was today. I owed them only $5.00. I have my external bank account connected and I used NFCU app to pull the payment from my external bank.

With discover I've always done it the same way on the due date and it took a few days to actually post but i never had any issues. I decided to call in to NFCU just a few moments ago to try and get some clarification and they told me as long as I made the payment today , it will take a few days to post but it will reflect that the payment was made on the due date and it shouldn't be a problem - but honestly Most of the time I trust people in this forum more then some of the representives - I've called in for other questions and got so many different answers depending on the rep I spoke with...Always makes me nervous

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

I'm not sure what to think - rep told me I would be fine since once it post on there end it will reflect the date I processed the payment. I did one other payment with them in the same manner by paying on the day it was due but it took a few days to post. I never received any late penelties. I've always done the same with discover without issue so I'm hoping it won't be a problem. I might just make a second payment through my NFCU checking to be safe this time though.

Well, for 5 bucks you certainly got yourself a small hassle!  My experience is that when you walk on the edge sooner or later you are going to go over.  I would recommend you give yourself some margin.  You could also transfer from your savings today, but we're probably past the cutoff time.

Re: Question about making payment on NFCU card from external bank on weekend

I've done this before - made a pull payment on a Sunday eve from an external bank (though they were extra payments- min due was already paid so I wasn't concerned about posting date) - the payments posted on Monday but with the Sunday date.

Also, you won't see the indication of a pending payment in the portal after 7ish pm on the date of payment, that's just how their weirdo system works. That indicator goes away as the payment is processed.  It'll show up under posted transactions after it posts.  And payment confirmation is sent by email but it can sometimes take a few hours to be sent -  and check your promotional and/or spam folder for it.

Based on my own experiences, your payment should post with today's date and not be considered late.

I'm unsure if there are cut off times. Paying from your NFCU checking might be the best course of action to hopefully ensure no late payment.
