Question on Comenity CLI’s

I got a comenity store card in January and on July 1st it’s now 6 months old. It only has a measley $250 spending limit so I can barely use it without exceeding utilization.

Is 6 months a good time to attempt a CLI and is it a soft pull? Has anyone done one recently? I wanna keep the card open because it’s the oldest credit line I have on two of my bureaus.

Yes, you can try a CLI and it's usually a soft pull. Generally, 3 months in is considered a good time to apply for CLI's on Comenity cards.

Re: Question on Comenity CLI’s

Strange, I’ve tried like two other times and each time it gave me a message that I would receive a letter in 30 days. Both letters acted like I hadn’t had it long enough. I’ll try again today.

Ok the response I keep getting is: Thank you for your request of a Credit Limit Increase. You will receive a response in 7-10 days”

Re: Question on Comenity CLI’s

Different types of Comenity credit accounts seem to have different waiting periods between CLIs, or before one is granted.  They do seem to be 1, 3, or 4 month intervals, though.  If you are denied because you asked too early, the letter will clearly state that you were denied because their "records show that this account has recently received a credit line increase."  (My BJ's card is certainly on a 4 month cycle, and I have received that letter a few times, but have received a CLI 5 times from them, every 4 months.)

Well I suppose this ashley stewart card is different. They've denied me 3 times so far in 6 months.

Re: Question on Comenity CLI’s

Has the wording on your denials explicitly stated that you were turned down because the card is too new, and for no other reason(s)?  My first denial on the BJ's card said the account was too new, that's it.  No "we used credit score A from credit bureau B and you were turned down for reasons C, D, and E" messages.  After I received the first CLI, any time I asked prior to 4 months I just received the letter stating that I had recently received a credit line increase, again with no credit score, credit bureau, or any other reasons for denial listed.

If this is the oldest card that you have on two bureaus and it's only 6 months old, that implies that you have a newer card, or cards.  Does your credit profile otherwise merit an increased credit line?

Re: Question on Comenity CLI’s

I don't have the letters with me so I can't tell you with certainty what they said but here's what I know: The card was opened on Jan. 4th 2018, I attempted the first first CLI on 4/30 and that one basically said that I didn't have the card long enough. That was right before my fourth month began so that lends to your point. The 2nd time I tried was May 9th. Declined and I can't remember why but I think it was time again. 3rd attempt was June 2nd. This one said something different like "We like to see more usage" or something to that effect. Now I tried today and got the usual 7-10 days answer thing so I have to wait on the letter again.

Re: Question on Comenity CLI’s

I have an Ashley Stewart card I opened at the start of October. They also gave me a $250 limit and continue to deny requests for an increase due to the account being too new. Probably doesn't matter since every time I place an order they cancel it a week later saying that they are out of stock. The one time they did send me something it wasn't even close to what I purchased and when I called customer service they said I could return it and try to rebuy but that I'd probably get the same, wrong item. (Clearly the term "customer service" is being used quite loosely!) Bums me out because I love so many things on their site.
