Questions in regards to becoming an authorized user and things surrounding it

Ok

My Dear Grandmother has offered to get a Credit Card with her credit and add me as a user...Ok fine.. I app'd with Amex and got the we need more info (we are trying to do it with my address so gramps doesnt see the bills)..GRRRRR..So then i app'd with Capital One and got approved for a 10K limit, but saw no where to add me as an authorized user... GRRRRR.... Appd with Citi tonight and they said they need additional processing time..I think its flagging it because we are using my address and not her current one and i discoverd her ATT Universal card is through them (oh great)

#1. Will capital one allow me to be added as an authorized user?
#2. With every ones amex expernce here, do i even have a shot at the amex?
#3. WIll it screw up Her current Card with Citi (its in gramps name)

And are there any other ideas? I know the Authorized USer Feature is going south soon, so im wondering...

B of A is out, wish they wherent, but they alot of accounts there and we're trying to keep this quite from gramps because he will complain and grams is being nice and understands i need this.

Help! Im so lost

If Cap One approved, have grandma call and ask to add you as authorized user.

Capital one does joint too I believe. instead of having grams add you as auth.
call and ask them to send the forms to add someone as JOINT.
fall back on just a simple auth. if they say they can't do that.

and yes that different address will get you flagged for fraud, grams could call and get those processed probably with some verification.

Re: Questions in regards to becoming an authorized user and things surrounding it

After my original post I thought about this and I want to ask you a question.

I there any way you can talk to gramps with grandma and see if he would sign on to this?

The reason is this. Gramps and Grams have been married for years. They are in their golden age. I think as their grandchild you would want to respect that union. So in doing this you would not want to cause any marital issues.

Hiding financial info from a spouse is a horrible thing. I think gramps has a right to know. If you get into trouble with this card grams is in a pickle. I think being open about this type of thing might be your best bet.

Gramps has a right to know what is going on financially with grams. They have a long lasting relationship and those are built on trust. I hope you can see that this type of thing may not be good for Grams and Gramps as a couple. Personally I would not want to cause any trouble in my grandparents marriage.

Re: Questions in regards to becoming an authorized user and things surrounding it

I will stick with capital one, there easy enough to deal with and i already have one account with them on my own..I just hope my aps havent goofed anything up. I have a funny feeling there may be an amex card in my mailbox next week... cause they never emailed me back needing more info

I am not getting in the middle of there mess.. Gramps is 83 now and very stubborn...
There are lots of things grams does and never says a word about concering my dh and i..She has paid our mortgage for over a year and never told him...  she also pays my car insurance...She wants to help my dh and i out and feels this is the best she can do... Its not like I can't afford it.. But we appricate the help... I have severe rheumiod arthrits and my dh has lupus, and we rack up 3-5K a month in medical bills .... I do know recently gramps said she should have a cc for her to use when she spends money on her rotten grandchild...I also know he figures things out and never says a word, just rolls his eyes...So its up to her what gets said.... I would ask, but i know the answer... Best left to grams discretion...

Thanks for the ideas... Cap. 1 is a good idea and the 10K limit is pleanty... If the amex came and was a valid card, i would take that over anything... Unless the limit was puney... Will keep you updated!
