A while back, I received a pre-approved offer for an auto-refi from RBFCU at a great rate, but not much cheaper than my NFCU rate. The difference would have resulted in about only $300 in savings over the just under 4 years left, so I circular filed it. But it had me thinking about a local CU relationship to replace my old KCPSCU from KC before I moved to Texas. I just ended that relationship (deposit and CC account) last month. Fast forward to this month... I joined RBFCU with only a savings account. It was a SP for membership and there was a box during the signup process to give them authorization to SP credit to evaluate for pre-approved offers and such. I checked that box, funded the account and it's now active.
Question 1: My scores are fine, but are they inquiry / new account sensitive for CC accounts? Quite a few inquiries in the past year, mostly due to two rounds of mortgage rate shopping (and while they combine for scores they don't combine for sensitivity - also, not all of them were coded for mortgage).
Question 2: I like how the CC can work as a LOC to back up cash needs, and while it may not be something I ever need to use, having a tool available is nice. To that end, are SL generous? My SL of $6k was my ending line with KCPSCU after a 16 year relationship because they required a HP for CLI requests and didn't do auto-CLI. I read in the boards that RBFCU requires HP for CLI, so the SL potential is a deciding factor.
Thanks!
I've been curious about RBFCU myself so I'm following the replies.
Some recent threads seem to indicate they can be generous with SLs as high as $25K or CLIs to that within short order. Data points also show a $1K and $5K approval, so you might consider other profile data points relative to yours.

First - thank you. Second, while about half of those I did see via my own searches, the other half of the links you posted I had not seen in my search results... (it's funny to me - I must be choosing obscure search terms or something... all of those threads were within 2 years, so relevant, yet didn't come up when I searched...)

To your 1st question, when I was approved ( here ) in late 2018, I'd added five retail cards and six bank cards in the previous six months. So not inquiry or new account sensitive, at that time.
To the 2nd question, My SL was 8k but 3 1/2 months later it was bumped to 20k, where it remains. I've also added a 5k PLOC.
I'm a fan of RBFCU. ![]()
@brk1971 Ironically enough I literally just closed on an auto loan refi with them...you can see the post in the Auto Loan section under my name.
It was a very pleasant experience all around. I too had an offer for a new auto loan/refi on my account, after dealing with Navy who gave me an insanely high rate for a newish car refi (3.99% @ 72 months) I ultimately decided to go with RBFCU (acct started in 2019, only had savings).
Anyway...got a 2.25% @ 66 months. No POI, and they even got the loan prepared and closed as I was on the phone with them today, after sending all the docs they wanted (pay-off, title info, mileage).
With loans (Auto, Mortgage) they are not inq/new acct sensitive...but they are with CC's.
I tried with them back in 2019 and it was a big NO...due to those reasons.
They do give very nice SL (average is $15k-$25k). So it's 50/50 with them.
The HP is good for 30 days generally, and I even asked today, and the lady confirmed it.
I set up an appointment for tomorrow to open a Biz account with them at the local branch, and plan on applying for their Biz Visa card.
If all goes well, I plan on closing my Chase Biz...especially since they are increasing fees, and still can't get past the 5/24,
even though we do high amounts of deposits for the business with them.
At this point I would def recommend RBFCU...Good Luck ![]()
In my experience, they are very sensitive to DTI. They denied me for a small auto loan, and even denied me for a secured card, back in the day when I had a 720+ FICO.
