Random closing of accounts?

I've been reading some threads on here and it kind of scares me that some CCCs will close an account even though it's in good standing, etc... Kind of scares me..

Re: Random closing of accounts?

I doubt that account closures are random. We do not get all the facts here. I am not worried about account closures at all.  I even survived inactivity for 10+ years on 1 BofA account Smiley Happy Today  I realize how much luck I had and I am so grateful as it is by far  my oldest account.  The only thing I will make sure now is to use all of my cards to avoid account closures for inactivity but certainly do not worry about random closures as I do not believe in this. There must be some reason behind in my opinion.

Re: Random closing of accounts?

It will close due to inactivity.  I don't know if you guys remembered a chain store call Mervyn's.  I had a store card with them back in 2000 and never used it.  It closed in 2009.  At least that's what's reporting on my CR.  I believe if you use it, you won't lose it.

Re: Random closing of accounts?

Of the account closures I read here seems many were related to irregular activities like:

Adding too many AUs.
Making too many payments per month.
Apping excessively after new acct opening.
Dramatic changes in DTC ratio.
Dramatic drop in scores.

Discover IT $19,000 == 12/2013
AMEX 12/2013 ---BCP $12,000 === BC $23,000 ----- 04/2014
CHASE SLATE $5,700 === 12/2013
BoA 123 $6000 === 12/2013
Barclay Rewards $1500 == 12/2013

Exactly. There were reasons not just random closings

Re: Random closing of accounts?

I don't think that the average CC user needs to worry about "random" account closure. We see posts about accout closure here, but there's usually a reason for it - either inactivity or the user is doing something that the CCC considers risky behavior.

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

3 or 4 is not really going to place you on the radar - not hurting anything (normal).  I'm thinking this may be associated with an excessive number of payments (or an irregular pattern) - of course each lender views such excessive numbers differently.
