I'll be getting a Penfed Promise card shortly. Is there any point in requesting a CLI on activation?

Can't hurt. Take advantage of the no HPs for 90 days and hit them up for PLOC, another card, CLIs, boatload of gold coins, you name it.
It can't hurt. I did that and was given a 2k increase on my rewards card.
Show a bit of history with them first 60-80 days then hit them up IMO.. I tried shortly after getting declined. Then tried after 70ish days and got one, same HP.

This seems to work in most cases. I did this with my Platinum Rewards Visa within 60 days of approval and after putting some moderate and the request was granted. YEMV and if you don't qualify for one right away not the end of the world.
Looking at the cards you already have, I have to stop and ask why you want the card? The promise has no rewards. Its main two selling points for someone with your portfolio is the relatively low interest rate and no foreign transaction fees. If you're not going to travel or carry a balance, you wont use this card.

Options and diversifications is my guess as this is why I have it with many other very good rewards card in my portfolio.. By no means does it give me best rewards as it isn't a reward CC. So really it doesn't get much spend other than a small amount per month.. Although recently was offered promo $25 dollars statement credit or cash back for $500 spend which is a 5% card for the targeted offer they sent me and not many cards can beet that!![]()

The trigger for me to app was the $100 bonus after $1,500 spend, which posted on the same statement where I reached the $1,500.
Now setting up to clear it, then BT $5,000+ to get a $50 bonus, no BT fee, 4.99% APR for a short time. They also offer a $100 bonus for BT $10k or more.
Nice to hear about the spend bonus offer. Looking forward to see if that comes through.
